This is a huge mess and has been out there for an unusually long time. Generally, the city picks up very quickly. We really appreciate their excellent work in the past, but the situation is way out of control right now. Help!!! It just keeps growing and growing....
This site -- at the bottom of Jungle Hill AKA the Santa Rita Land Trust -- is an everyday (everynight I should say) dumping ground. Once the current mess is cleaned up, there will be new dumping to report. Oakland PWA apparently must consider each new dumping a new and separate issue, and each clean-up a separate service request. In fact what we have here is a never-ending issue; it should be considered a never-closed service request. It might just be more effective, and certainly more proactive, for PWA to send a cleanup crew around every other day as a matter of course, instead of acting only on resident alerts. Not complaining -- PWA does a great job day in and day out, and we all thank them for their efforts -- just suggesting.
And the dumping isn't concentrated in just this one spot -- there are usually other smaller piles up and down Santa Rita, spinoff sites; dumpers attracted to the larger site sometimes don't add to it, or can't easily add to it because it's so huge, and disgorge their mattresses, furniture, construction debris, etc. further up the street.
Sometime PWA will attack these smaller piles as part of the large-pile cleanup, sometimes not, considering each one of these smaller piles a separate issue requiring a separate service request. Again, in reality the entire length of Santa Rita from Harrington to Ransom is a single, ongoing issue ...
This issue has NOT been fully addressed. There are still piles of trash strewn on both sides of Santa Rita in the public roadway, also giant clumps of brush, and there are still smaller piles of dumping in the public pathways and roadway further up Santa Rita towards Ransom.

I agree that this is a never ending problem. As soon as a pile is cleaned up, more trash is dumped within a day or two. Noel Gallo promised cameras for Jungle Hill when he came to a recent block party... Let's all hold him to that promise! Email him to remind him, the louder we make our collective voice hopefully we will be heard.
