No, this continues to be a very dangerous drive. Yesterday, 2 June, an SUV hit a METRO bus that was stopped at a bus stop in the right hand lane of eastbound Randolph road. There were injuries as well as property damage. Randolph road should have at least one additional controlled intersection; and, speed cameras would also slow down traffic.

More accidents! - people pickup speed between Sherwood Forest and Kemp Mill - the road has curves and hills that limit visibility. Accidents are frequent. Really need something here to moderate speed and aggressive driving.

I'm surprised that neither METRO nor the county police are concerned about this area. Like Kennedy HS and MLK middle school, this segment of road needs a speed camera. Speed cameras work! People will slow down!

More lights probably aren't gonna happen, cause you need the traffic to justify them. A partial fix would be a much shorter wait time for traffic coming out of Locksley. More breaks in the traffic on Randolph would slow it down. The wait has finally decreased from one of the longest in the county to more tolerable, but it could be even shorter. There is NEVER a back up at this light due to entering cross traffic....any backup is cause further east at New Hampshire Ave & Randolph.

Then to put the speed camera at Hawkesbury and Randolph...the cars really start speeding (50 and up) at this point.

Hawkesbury and Springloch share the same intersection. This would be a good place for a new light controlled intersection. That would - in general - slow down only the speeders. It would also make it safer for the Metro Bus stop, and for traffic entering Randolph Rd from both the North and the South adjacent neighborhoods. How do we make that happen?.

Randolph Road - or, more accurately, "Randolph Raceway" has become a major east-west highway through Montgomery County. It will attract even more traffic when the interchange with Georgia avenue is completed. The time is now for the county or SHA to control the speed of traffic through the most dangerous sections with bends and twists and hils.

The cars certainly get to 50-55 from Locksley to Kemp Mill. Perhaps a speed cam somewhere along there, while they spend months and months over traffic lights. It will be the same answer as b4 regarding more traffic lights though, No Justification. Boy, they'd make out even better if they posted a speed cam across from the Mormon Temple.

Randolph road continues to be a dangerous drag-race and road rage corridor in eastern Montgomery County. Without action from the county or the SHA, this will only get worse. People drive too fast, too aggressively (changing lanes, etc.) and the road itself has curves and hills - creating blind spot hazards.

Within the past two months there was a fatal car accident between Kemp Mill and Sherwood Forest, due to excessive speed - perhaps cars racing.

It is disappointing that this problem with excessive speed - even drag-racing - on Randolph road between JFK High and New Hampshire avenue continues to b a dangerous problem.

The danger is largely caused by people riding slow, side-by-side, across three lanes of traffic. Many times three school buses ride side-by-side going slower than the limit. This is not necessary at all and only inflames the situation. This is a known trigger for road rage. if you like to go slow, do so in the right hand lane. Simple solution that can happen TODAY. Let's remember that this is a 45 mph road so going 50 is not really as dangerous as many of the comments imply. The more lights installed the faster people will travel to make up the time. Right or wrong, this is a fact.

We should not abandon all efforts to improve driving safety and behavior, just because some people may speed up to make up for lost time at the lights. Because of human physiology for visual perception and motor reaction times, going 50 mph around over hills and curves is more dangerous than going 45. While I agree that slow cars should not drive "three abreast" down the road, speeding is not the answer to every problem.

Going 45 mph is also more dangerous than going 40 so shy not lower it more? Why is it valid to cite human physiology but not human behavior? If people speed to make up for time on overcrowded roads then how is it logical to create more congestion? It's like on Arcola how they turned two lanes into one and called it "traffic calming". Aggressive driving is proven to increase with congested roadways. So obviously we should do everything possible to cause more congestion like slower limits, lights, concrete islands and road restricting "calming" efforts.

Carefully timed lights - like on Route 1 in Alexandria - allow cars to go through at 25 mph w/o stopping.

On Randolph road, driving 50 mph for 1/2 mile, then stopping at a light for 90 sec, gives an average speed of 25mph - while seriously increasing the risk of a road crash.

Maryland SHA or Montgomery county could add extra lights to slow down the PEAK speed - while maintaining an AVERAGE speed that is actually FASTER than what happens now - and it would save lives, limbs, and reduce property damage.

This continues to be a problem - even more with ICC increasing the traffic flow into the Eastern part of Montgomery County.

Let's see how the new traffic signal at Springtree and Hawkesbury affects both the traffic flow, and the congestion. If you believe one of our Guests (above), this will make things worse. If you believe the other guests, it will make it better - and safer. The experiment will begin soon.

The new traffic light at Springtree seems to have changed the traffic flow. Now, if only we could get people to stop texting while they are driving ...

This is still one of the most frustrating stretches of road in MoCo. People now consistently go 10 mph below the speed limit in all three lanes side-by-side. Congrats everyone... it is now impossible to travel a few miles anymore without spending 30 minutes in you car.

The light at Hawkesbury and Springloch has made it safer to leave the two adjoining neighborhoods - North and South of Randolph. Sadly, however, this has not had mitigated the speeding (actually racing) on Randolph road. If we had a school, we could get a permanent "Photo Enforced" camera. Is there any other way that we could get photo-enforced speed limits on that section of Randolph? I'm sure the camera would pay for itself very quickly.
