285 Newark Avenue is a store front. Please confirm this is the correct address. Violation for elimination of weeds is being sent out. Reinspection date 11/15/2019
please elaborate on your response. can and will DPW board up this vacant property? my understanding is that the division of neighborhood improvement within DPW will board vacant properties that is a fire hazard to its surrounding properties.
We are removing this category because residents cannot directly request board ups. The vacant property request first goes to Housing Code Enforcement, who then goes out and verifies its vacant (or abandoned} status. The HCE also makes sure thee property is properly registered/fees paid. If violations are found, the HCE inspector then issues a violation. If HCE inspectors find in two weeks (the time given to abate the violation/s), that violations still exist, they write out tickets and send to Municipal Court to deal with the property owner. If the building requires a board up, then the issue is referred to Building and Streets (in DPW) to board up the building HUD style and put a lien on the property for the expense of material and labor. We never want the cost of this to fall on the tax payers.
In municipal court - DO NOT RE-OPEN. We will not be able to take further action on this since only the Court has jurisdiction. Should we interfere now, then the property owner might have grounds for a dismissal and we will be right back at square one.

The building needs to be boarded up in addition to having the doors secured.
This is an unacceptable eyesore to the community as well as a fire hazard to the surrounding buildings.
