There is already a traffic light 300 feet from this exit ramp. Installing a second light so close would cause serious problems with traffic flow on the local streets.
But then what to do? It is dangerous for those waiting to turn left as traffic can be backed up on to the highway. Others do illegal u-turns out of the office complex across the street.
Is an intermittent light, one only operational at morning rush hour, the solution?
I know the Bernards Township Committee once discussed this concern. Uncertain the outcome.
There is a simple solution but it would be unpopular with the folks complaining about this exit. Eliminate the left turn option altogether. A second, albeit much more expensive, option would be an overpass crossing over Mt. Airy and 287 linking with the 287 North bound ramp onto Mt. Airy east.
Of course if someone could invent a time machine we could go back and let the planners know that the Bernards Twsp area would expand far beyond anyones expectations in 1960.
