Description

This may be an enforcement, or better, lack-of-enforcement as well as a signage, or lack-of-signage issue along with a signal issue. As I was stopped in traffic on Main St. at around 3:45 p.m. today, I watched as pedestrians attempted with great difficulty to cross Main St. from East Terrace toward East Ave. With the pedestrian-crossing lights illuminated and while in the crosswalk gesticulating, trying to make eye contact with drivers, and creeping forward, they were repeatedly cut off by right-turning drivers who seemed to be looking to their left for oncoming vehicular traffic while creeping forward. Finally, one driver stopped for them but the pickup truck behind swung left around the stopped car and then right, nearly hitting the finally advancing pedestrians. They completed their ordeal by running for their lives across Main St. as the crossing time wound down to zero.
