Welcome yo my Hell on Washington Ave. I've complained repeatedly to the Mayor and the Kingston DPWs. I've experiences foundation cracks that I directly attribute to over-weight vehicles transversing our street, falling into recessed man-hole covers, causing all sort of seismic vibrations.
I recommend you complain directly to City Hall. Let them know as part of "Due Diligence" you are informing them that damage is being done to your dwelling. That if the situation is not rectified, you plan to seek legal counsel. Hand deliver the complaint to the City Clerk so she stamps it.
Now...Here's the Kicker. The recessed man-hole covers if "By Design" from the former Kingston DPW Chief. He ordered the recessed so as to prevent his plows from getting damaged.
the manhole covers that are set too low ARE the inderect cause of property damage to the surrounding homes and more specificly to there masonry. Every time large trucks, trailers etc. hit these two successive manholes the ground literaly shakes. There is noticable shifting in the bricks in my chimney and my neighbors also have experienced tangible negative repercussions from these two manhole covers that are set a good 5-7 inches below the pavement. Its tyime to rectify this issue.
Haha, drive like a drunk to miss the holes, you get arrested for DWI, the city/county pays for you to be held in jail...meanwhile the potholes remain...
If this is still an issue, please provide an update, otherwise this will be closed.
As a resident on a non-throughway road (I live on Green St and near Main street), I'd say that to a significant extent - that is the nature of living in a city. While perhaps the man hole covers could be reset - that is a significant expense, and will probably not stop trucks from shaking your foundation. Trucks are allowed on city streets, and I am quite confident that perfectly legal trucks will continue to cause problems.
So if you continue to think this is a real problem, please update. Otherwise I will close it.
