@andromb, have you tried reporting this through the Word On The Street (WOTS) app? We have had good luck with calling in these types of parking issues this way and getting citations issued because Parking with investigate it right away.

Most times here on SCF if you report after hours, the City will reply back that their Office was closed and that the area is now clear.

EPA, Yes, I have many times but police and parking authority are powerless to do anything about this situation.

I would really like to say thanks but a one-time summons attempt (USPS will ignore) does not solve this problem. This has been happening for several years now and there still is no solution. Please escalate to Councilman Solomon's office - they are aware of the situation.

JCPE is aware of the ongoing issue and have had Officers issuing summons to the USPS trucks on a daily bases.

Issuing summonses is not solving the problem -- by law the post office is not required to pay the summons.For close to two years now we have been told that the city is "working on" the problem but the problem has only gotten worse. Please escalate to City officials.

It is not only inconvenient - more lost parking spaces - but very dangerous on Washington & Grand, York & Washington... From what I saw and reported a year ago drivers are parking the USPS trucks on the streets to secure parking for their vehicles the next day.

Although I appreciate the response but issuing summonses does absolutely nothing to solve this problem. This needs to be escalated to at the very least Council. Please confirm when that happens.

Officer has issued summons. This issue is being investigated and we will continue to issue summons to document the USPS Trucks Parking Illegally.

Why do you keep issuing summonses ? They do not have to pay them or appear in court. The post office is immune under federal law. Will this be escalated to the mayor and council or are we wasting our time complaining ?

Summons will continue to be issued to the USPS trucks that are parked illegally. We are working with the Municipal Prosecutor's Office there is a future court date pending regarding this issue.

The court date is irrelevant. The post office is immune from prosecution --- New York City fought and lost that battle years ago. Good to know that we should stop wasting time reporting.

The Parking Issue has been addressed. Parking Enforcement can not address the legal issues or court proceedings.

This persistence on this issue existed because it is a safety issue. When residents bring safety issues to this forum my understanding is that actual solutions are supposed to be offered or (at a bear minimum) the residents would be directed to the proper person who could offer an actual solution. Continually saying (1) your department issues summonses that you know full well the post office doesn't have to pay and (2) somebody went to court but you don't know when or what happened is the antithesis of being helpful and responsive. It is stereotypical unhelpful government. The safety issue persists ( whenever the court appearance was it was obviously ineffective) But don't worry I won't open the issue again-- I'm just going to save the transcript of this and pass it to the next person who gets into an accident because the condition complained of here.That way the City can be liable for damages for inaction after being given notice of a dangerous condition. A much better motivation for action than reopening.

Do close this issue until the problem is resolved. USPS has created these unsafe conditions, is aware of what they are doing, and is in complete disregard of state and local ordinances. This issue continues - it is not safe to cross any of the intersections adjacent to the post office. Two of us experienced this as recently as yesterday evening at York and Green.

It appears that the city has addressed this matter with the courts. If you feel it be necessary, you can file for a Open Public Records Act request for court records. The courts seems to be the appropriate agency to deal with this matter. As you may already know, the City of Jersey City really doesn't have authority over the Federal Government. A matter like this more than likely must be addressed by the courts. Again, you can file for an OPRA request through the City Clerk's Office.

Thank you. The City does indeed have options here. As discussed with our district council person's representative, barriers/bollards can be easily placed to restrict parking to only permitted areas. Time is overdue for the City to move forward on this public safety issue.

The Engineering, Traffic, and Transportation Division is working closely with Councilman Solomon's office to correct this issue.

The City will be installing curb extensions at the intersection of Washington St and York St to clear the corners for better visibility when approaching the intersection. We will also be installing bike racks within the curb extensions for additional physical barriers. This will be completed this spring.
