Thanks for catching this. We've had a lot trash recently set out for heavy trash pickup - but this is unfortunately the month for Tree Waste. Dividing trash pickup was a cost saving decision for the City which has unfortunately been bad for our neighborhood because people get confused.

Even worse- this was dumped near an old warehouse, not a residence. SO it likely won't be picked up unless the city does something to catch these people. I always see mattresses, tires, old carpet, couches, etc... it's almost like a contractor is dumping this stuff. They need to start fining people! Put up cameras and clean up the neighborhood.

Most of the stuff we see isn't contractor. For some reason random residents don't feel like putting their own trash in front of their houses. I see this around my house in 4th Ward all the time, and sometimes see a bag or two of regular trash dumped on my lot in Northside. I don't know if it's just pure cussedness or what. It's not like the city won't pick up trash from in front of your house. Heck, it takes a bigger effort to carry it somewhere to dump it.

Mind you, sometimes the city misses. And they never pick up properly bagged yard waste in 4th ward. Apparently if you live in a townhome or in a poor neighborhood, you don't get yard waste picked up unless you call for it.

The city is CLEARLY aware of the problem- they "Acknowledge" each report in a matter of seconds. I report a few of these EVERYDAY!

Put very simply, $$$ It takes money to do that, and let's be honest, there's far worse crimes out there that need to be stopped. This sort of thing takes the neighbors to watch for it, poke around in the trash for mail or other identifying information, and then we can hopefully expect the city to enforce the rules once we do the legword. But they're not going to spend the manpower themselves, because we Houstonians as a group are not willing to raise taxes enough to pay for police to cover every little thing. :(

Only in my opinion...This alternating schedule between tree waste and junk waste is very difficult for the residents. Especially when only just a approx year ago, tree and junk waste was collected at the same times and there was no limiting size quota of how much waste could put out at the curbs.

I vote for the waste pickup to be scaled back up by city services.
