something definitely needs to be done there. I always thought the solution might be putting the stop sign on spring valley and opening up east main so you don't have to stop at the bottom of the hill. but maybe a stop sign at both places is a good solution.

It needs a light-or a cop sitting on it. How many times have I been coming up Spring Valley or down East Main and the car that is supposed to be stopped blows through the stop sign. This is a serious issue. Someone is going to get into a bad accident.

Traffic Safety Committee,

In the past the TSC acted to make the intersection of Spring Valley Street and East Main safer. You placed a stop sign on East Main for traffic headed south towards the mountain. That measure helped but many people (including myself) would like safety to be taken a little further.

Please consider placing a stop sign on Spring Valley Street for traffic headed onto East Main. At present it is very difficult for a vehicle on East Main to physically position themselves to look up Spring Valley Street (5 o’clock degree head turn) to see if there is a car headed for the intersection. A stop sign would reduce the problem because a driver would not have to turn his/her head more than (3 o’clock) to see a vehicle stopped at the stop sign.

There are many elderly people and people with back and neck conditions that make this intersection dangerous. I understand stop signs are not supposed to be used for speed control. This recommendation is not about speed control, its about making a dangerous intersection safer.

That intersection has been an issue for decades. Many years ago a stop sign was put on Spring Valley, where one is now being proposed. It was removed and the present one replaced it. Both streets need stop signs. Both require a severe turn of the head, but as it is present you have a larger sight distance looking down the hill than if there was only a stop sign on Spring Valley where you cannot see up the hill more than just a car length or two.
