Will T - regardless of whether or not I agree or disagree with the sign - this is not the same as reporting someone for the color of their home (unless the color you paint your home is restricted by zoning). While speech is protected - there are zoning rules in St. Petersburg regarding the size and quantity of signs you can have in your yard. You can't plaster your yard with an unlimited number of signs. Additionally - in light of the political climate in this country - I don't disagree with the reporting the signs directly and not confronting the neighbor.

Never once in the complaint is a codes compliance issue mentioned, instead there is only mention about how unpleasant it is. "It is extremely unpleasant to look at and not needed as this person already has a flag as well as 3-4 yard signs of the same variety" hence why the comparison to a house painted with an "unpleasant" color, especially since unpleasant is such a subjective term. Of all the great things in our neighborhood, all the petty hostilities and smugness of a specific group of residents towards another is the blight on us all. We all know the hate that has been directed at this resident on different mediums. Your wrong on this one Kevin.
