Probably because there was a fire there and they are inspecting it and dont want anyone to get hurt!

Sure, they had a fire but the amount of space they have blocked off is totally unnecessary. They should move the fence closer to their business so it isn’t blocking the public right of way. If they can’t do that, they at least have to have proper detour signage in place & an encumbrance permit.

Any update here? Still no proper detour signage in place, sidewalks on Pearl & Union still blocked. The other day there was a house painting crew working on the south side of Pearl, so BOTH sidewalks were completely blocked. Clear ADA violation.

Call the dpw or go in and make a complaint. Or call the city attorneys office or the city clerks office. They might be more helpful than the dpw is any day!

They put up temporary hanging signs earlier this week that state “Sidewalk closed ahead, cross here”, but these signs aren’t near a cross-walk, forcing pedestrians to cross in the middle of Pearl Street when walking Westbound.

Or the dpw expects people to walk in the road which is dangerous! Who is in charge of that sidewalk blockage anyway??

Yeah, sidewalk closures need to be marked at the nearest ADA compliant crosswalk, at the end of the block, not mid-block.

What has the DPW done to resolve the case

I believe it’s been canceled because construction is over and Pearl Street Beverage is open again. :)
