Downtown jersey city has become a terrible place to live due to overdevelopment. Too many residents for Insufficient infrastructure. Noise, drunkenness, too many bars, hotels, high rises. Hard to find peace in this area.

Can someone at least explain why we deserve to live with such noise? And how can we fight for our right to live with reasonable amount of noise, if I’m not wrong with maximum of 65 dB if tested outside?

because construction sites are exempt from noise Monday thru Friday from 7am to 6pm

Per code (https://library.municode.com/nj/jersey_city/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=CH222NO_ARTINORE_S222-5.4REUSAC), "all motorized equipment used in construction and demolition activity shall be operated with a muffler and/or sound reduction device". This applies to construction Monday through Friday from 7a to 6p, as you mentioned. Please confirm this is the case for the noise we are hearing at 90 Columbus.

Also, please advise on the best course of action for reporting noise outside of regular construction hours. Thank you.

Jackhammering started before 8a this morning. "Excluding emergency work, power tools, home maintenance tools, landscaping and yard maintenance equipment used by a residential property owner or tenant shall not be operated between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., unless such activities can meet the applicable limits in Tables I, II or III". Tables say cap is 65 dbs and jackhammering is 100 dbs. Thanks.
