Description

Hi: Repeatedly, I am noticing long red traffic signals when on Reon Drive and wanting to turn left onto Providence Road to head toward Indian River Rd. Does this traffic signal malfunction? For example, one morning this week I think I waited close to two minutes, & the signal was red, still. (Is it true that idling a running vehicle for two minutes is equivalent to driving a moving vehicle one mile?) More than one group of vehicles passed the intersection traveling on Providence Rd. with their green light, and sometimes there was space between those groups with no oncoming traffic while I sat at the long red light on Reon Rd. I've turned left on red a few times because I wondered whether the light was malfunctioning; of course, that is an incorrect move & potentially unsafe. Reon Rd. & Providence Rd. in this area are busy roads with traffic from nearby I-64 & Indian River Rd. cutting through on Reon Rd., the VBPR-Providence Park entrance & exit on Reon Rd., fire trucks from a nearby fire station on Providence Rd., residential street intersections, and business parking lots with exiting cars directly across from Reon Rd at this Providence Rd. intersection & traffic signal. It's easy to miss seeing those cars exiting the business parking lots, and I've learned I need to be more careful in watching for fire trucks, too. If I were to turn right onto Providence Rd., a nearby left turn lane, which creates a U-turn option, is in the same dangerous area & closer to the overpass over I-64, which is a slight hill and where the fire trucks come from, plus a residential street directly across from the left turn/u-turn lane often has cars entering Providence Rd. there, too.
