Dear Commissioner Wynn,
This letter is to alert you of serious health and safety concerns involving a sewage leak and a tremendous flooding risk to dozens of properties in the Forest Lake Subdivision and properties downstream of the lake.
The immediate concern is the integrity of the Forest Lake dam. The dam has been leaking slowly for years causing stagnant water to remain in the overflow stream south of the dam. This water serves as a host for infestation of mosquitos and bacteria, etc.
A sewage spill (overflow) on my property adjacent to the dam was identified on Sunday, January 12th and was reported on Monday morning, January 13th. The Macon Water Authority responded immediately to this reported sewage spill on Monday. But, evidence of the sewage spill had already been washed down stream because the dam above the sewage line access is breaking apart causing flooding to the adjacent properties. The dam is pouring water through at least two large tunnels caused by erosion and inadequate maintenance of the property. The entire dam is at risk of a total breach
For at least 15 years, or more, residents have reported environmental and safety concerns to officials in differing Macon/ Bibb County city works authorities. Requested repairs and maintenance to this dilapidated, abandoned lake have passed from office to office with no resolution. This lake has now become a serious hazard which must be addressed soon to avoid catastrophic situations.
Thank you for assistance with this matter,
Sincerely,
478-361-7207
