The traffic signals at Walnut Ave. and 2nd St. S.E. and Walnut Ave. and 2nd St. N.E. were removed due to them both being not warranted. Canton is a statutory city which means we have to follow state law. The law requires us to remove signals if they are not warranted. Since the project on Walnut was not going to pay for the new signal installations we removed them at that time. Pedestrian traffic is a concern at any intersection, however, since there is a fair amount of pedestrians crossing Walnut Ave. at 2nd St. S.E. and 2nd St. N.E. we will install painted crosswalks for their convenience in the spring when the weather permits. If pedestrians are still apprehensive or feel it is not safe, they can and should cross Walnut Ave. either at Third St. or W. Tuscarawas.
