Description
How is it that a brand new sidewalk is installed with mailboxes set directly in the middle of the path? There is no way that this was done to meet ADA requirements.

Thank you for contacting the Bureau of Highways. Please see the response from Department of Engineering the Transportation and Special Projects Division.
The mailboxes were installed parallel and next to curb to reduce impacts and stay in right of way. We have worked with Howard County Office of Transportation to ensure they meet ADA requirements. The pinch points at mailboxes were set to allow 36” minimum width of sidewalk, which is required by ADA. This practice has been utilized in Howard County where constraints exist.
If you have any further questions they can be contacted at 410-313-6141.
