Please see the ohio drivers manual, under the section "Pavement Markings." It reads this, "Solid white lines are also typically used as the
lane line in areas where lane changing is discouraged, i.e., tunnels or bridges
having width restrictions, interchange areas where lane changes disrupt traffic
flow and in advance of intersections." Are motorists to assume it is discouraged to proceed to the right line to turn onto Rt. 2?

You explained it yourself. It is used to discourage changing lanes, as it is not a lane that is through to the next intersection. And it's not a solid line either.

Stop looking at the GPS and watch the road.

I do watch the road...that is the problem. So the cars that use that stretch of road should be discouraged from switching lanes into that lane... Brilliant! Some one with a brain painted that line. Eastlake is trying to discourage people from going to Cleveland.

What is your solution then? I see a lot of complaining, but no answers.

Mark the road with a dashed white line from Curtis and then change it to a solid white line 30 feet before the turn/intersection. The same way thousands of other intersections are marked.

What's more annoying is when people don't turn right before curtis and keep going past the intersection to get on the freeway. I believe it should be a right turn only before curtis, and if it isn't, it should be.

It is a right turn only onto Curtis and you are completely right about some people, some time going straight instead of turning onto Curits.

Your right Rockets, that was posted earlier in this string. Motorists are only discouraged from crossing that solid white line so that they can drive to Cleveland. That still is not ideal.

"Standard:
When used, lane line pavement markings delineating the separation of traffic lanes that have the same direction of travel shall be white.

Standard:
Where crossing the lane line markings with care is permitted, the lane line markings shall consist of a normal broken white line.

Where crossing the lane line markings is discouraged, the lane line markings shall consist of a normal solid white line."

Now the lane arrows are so badly faded you can't even tell you are in the turning lane, you just think you are on the burm...but Eastlake doesn't care.

Not only was this not fixed the solid white lines were repainted. I have no respect for any solid white line anymore and cross over them when ever I need. Thanks Eastlake for making me open my eyes to all the freedom a solid white line brings! If I'm ever ticketed your intersection will be used as an example.

Crossing a solid white line is NOT illegal. A solid white line simply means it's not a great idea to change lanes at that point. From that point of view, a broken white line would be better at that location. A solid yellow line can't legally be crossed under normal circumstances.

You're right "Me", too bad the line painters and Eastlake planners don't realize it. If they don't think it's a great idea to change lanes at that point, maybe they need to redesign the intersection.

A lane change over a solid white line WILL get you pulled over every time. The police dare you to fight the ticket. You will probably win the fight, but the city is betting that you will not take the time.

Sadly this issue is not fixed, as a matter of fact the last time they repainted the lines they painted them solid again ...sigh. Sometimes it's not worth arguing with stupid. I will remember this and if I ever get pulled over crossing a solid white line that doesn't make sense, like the ones they sometimes put on I-90 when the road curves slightly, I will use this intersection as proof it can't be legal in one place and illegal in another.

It's never going to be fixed. Closing the ticket as it did no good.
