There are prohibitions about machinery and construction noise. The noise would be prohibited under the noise ordinance between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. daily.
The relevant specific prohibitions in the noise ordinance is below:
d. Machinery. The operation or permitting or directing the operation of any power equipment or machinery outdoors between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. except in emergency situations.
e. Construction noise. The excavation, demolition, erection, construction, alteration or repair of any premises or structure between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. except in emergency situations.

The use of the generator was not found to be a violation today. Prohibitions on idling are specific to motor vehicles.
If the machinery or construction noise occurs between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. it would be prohibited and should be reported to the Burlington Police Department at 658-2700.
