I believe the owner's name is Louis Sherman (not Sherman Lewis). He owns properties all over the city...I know of 4 in my neighborhood...including the historic home on the corner of Market & 17th that was moved to make way for the Walgreens on 12th & Cleveland Ave. NW. I believe he received funding/grant help to move that beautiful old home, but now it looks unoccupied and untended & has junk vehicles in the back.

None of his properties are cared for and all seem to be 'storage' facilities for collections of junk.

1/30/14 The original comp. consisted of 320-15th n.w., no such address. The (3) properties in question are: 306,311, and 316 - 15th st. n.w. The 306 prop. is owner occupied in decent condition. The 316 prop. is in very good condition. The 311 prop. was written up for multiple exterior issues however. The garage was part of this comp., but it is okay at this time.(roof is snow covered) and we'll look at this when the 90 day portion of order is looked at. There is also a 10 day order for clean up of front porch. Last but not least... the auto in this drive has a valid plate and '14 sticker and appears to be an operable auto.

My guess is the original complaint meant the house beside 310 - 15th St. (to the west) I know the people who live there and they rent off Louis Sherman. If it's 316, it may look like it's in 'good condition', but has a side porch FULL of junk and slate roof tiles coming loose.

Also, what about the Market Ave. properties listed above?

The individual isn't being 'smeared', I know him & like him...he's a very interesting and intelligent man. Ownership is a matter of public record. I just wish he'd keep his properties up and not use them as storage facilities. Several of them are beautiful homes that are falling into disrepair...it's sad.

BTW, I live in the neighborhood and am not Mr. West or even in his ward. No political motive here...just want properties cleaned up and taken care of.

For the record, the property owner is neither Sherman Lewis nor Louis Sherman. The property owner is Louis Shurman. Property Maintenance has checked the properties in questions, and issued appropriate orders within the law. Property Maintenance Inspector will follow up on these properties within the time frame stated in the orders and work with the property owner to rectify any and all violations.

2/12/14 Checked 10 day order for clean up. All okay.

8/22/14 This was the 4th r/c of this property since 2/12/14. All items are satisfactory. The roof was found to be operating as it should, per an inspection by a contractor. All okay.
