I definitely agree this is a safety hazard.
You may want to consider forwarding it to your neighbors using the "Send to Friend" button above. The more people concerned, the more likely it is that the issue will be fixed immediately.
It looks like Brookline, MA's Public Works Department has a watch area, but it could be worth calling them just to make sure that they received this report.
If you find out more in terms of a timeline for resolving this, etc., please post here so neighbors can stay informed.
