Description

This bridge has been crumbling and getting worse year after year. Now it has a serious crack and is in danger of falling into the creek if it isn't repaired. As it is, it should be identified to park users as an unsafe creek crossing. This bridge is beautiful and is similar to the other creek crossings in Morris Farlow Park. Please repair it!

We are repairing the crack on the bridge, and this will become a larger conversation about what to do long term with these bridges. P&R will request public input to address that long term solution. Thank you.

Joe James of Piedmont Stone in Stoneville has the stone masonry skills to repair this bridge. He has recently repaired one of the stone entrance monuments in the College Hill neighborhood.

I spoke with Parks& Rec this afternoon and they will be going out tomorrow to look at the problem and will report back to me on their findings. I've asked them to mark it with caution tape or a barrier of some sort if it is deemed unsafe to walk across. Stay tuned.

Latest is the City has had an engineering firm look at what it will cost to stabilize the bridge. They are waiting for the report to be submitted before proceeding.

The engineering firm has issued its draft report assessing the damage and potential remedies. Next step will be to evaluate costs of repair or replacement.
