This has been an ongoing issue for a very very long time.
Councilor Courchesne, if you happen to see this can post or elaborate on the modification to the noise ordinance? OR post the newly printed verbiage. Last question... When these ordinances are updated and modified is it shared with the Police?
I've had multiple instances where I've spoke to a police officer in regards to an ordinance an he or she didn't seem to have much knowledge of or about that ordinance. Thought that was strange.
I basically made the ordinance more specific by added the revving of motors(targeted at motorcycles) and I also increased the distance around the nursing homes from 300 to 500 feet as a quite zone. That being said anyone can call at anytime for any noise.
It is my understanding that the city clerk sends the department heads a copy of any new or revised ordinance. Unfortunately it doesn't always get disseminated to the rank and file. I have had the same encounter more times than I can count and you have seen it right here on this forum. This issue was brought to the previous chief's attention years ago for corrective action as ordinances that have been on the books for decades where not known to those tasked to enforce it.
Back when officers handled dispatch...... I literally read an ordinance to an officer over the phone from the city files online and he still questioned what I was telling him.
It Makes you wonder how many of these laws and ordinances are being broken in plain sight and yet the person who's suppose to enforce them has no clue. Maybe I'm wrong.......
