Several large black trash bags (perhaps a few white ones, too) of household trash, all grouped together on right side of Commercial Street (heading towards Job Lot from Mystic Valley Pkwy.).

Also, about 4 yellow bags of trash, closer to the back entrance to the Job Lot. Also, on the right side: 2 here, 2 up the street.

Several (around 5 to 7) branches are dead.

This tree gets watered in the summer by a sprinkler system in the nearby lawn. Though that means its roots pass under the sidewalk and up under the canal stone retaining wall. This wall is due for a rebuild within the next few years.

The blue barrel (by the Metal Items dumpster) is not overflowing. Yet, it should be emptied soon.

    Today -- Sat. April 27, 2024 -- there was a Citywide Cleanup event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Afterwards, between 1 and 2 p.m. I walked a small bag of metal items to the Metal Items dumpster on James St. I then also picked up more plastic as I was walking (just what I could hold in my hands) and also around the Metal Items dumpster. There was quite a lot of smashed plastic around the Metal Items dumpster. I picked up a lot of it, but not all of it. There is more to be swept and/or manually picked up. I only manually picked up, mostly just the larger pieces, but also small pieces. I put it in the blue barrel there.

The blue barrel isn't overflowing, per se, but it should be emptied soon. Thank you.

2 large remnants of "granite" countertop or similar stone (it is real stone countertop or similar material, yet it is probably of composition other than granite).

It is to the right of the walking trail (heading north) or to the left (in the photo, looking south). It is in the Thomas Brooks Park by the railroad tracks on Grove Street, in the vicinity of Oak Ridge Road.

It is natural stone. Yet, it is out of place in this now forested plot.

This sign, attached to an orange pylon, keeps getting knocked over by the wind. Is there a way to attach it to the utility pole?
  • 523 High Street Medford, Massachusetts, 02155 - Medford

Was this caused by a powerful gust of wind?

    Sign is bent longitudinally.

A tree seems to have fallen towards the road during a recent storm. The tree seems to have fallen so that just the uppermost limbs were obstructing the road. But these were apparently cut already. Yet, the limbs of this fallen tree that are above the stone wall and near the stone wall should also be cut back.

Heavy chunk of construction debris -- excess cement -- left by side of road.

Upon close inspection of the photo (bottom left of the photo, there is also a displaced stone (from the wall) seemingly left on top of the wall, apparently, by the perpetrator.

There is large chunk of construction debris (hardened cement) propped against the newly renovated stone wall (a 2023 Community Preservation Act project) just below the gap in the wall left by the displaced stone.

This wall was restored without mortar, though some new stone was added, as well as gravel or crushed stone in some interior gaps.

It is not on the road, but certainly a pedestrian could be hindered by this object in some cases.

There is also litter on the ground (trash). But this issue is the construction debris illegally left here. It is not part of the original wall restoration. Though apparently mortar might be necessary as stones from this wall have already fallen, nearby.

a Community Preservation Act project of 2023

rocks have fallen in 2 places

  • 309-339 Grove St Medford, MA, 02155, USA - Medford

I believe the wall in the photo was part of a 2023 Community Preservation Act project, whereby they rebuilt and restored a quarter mile of stone wall along Grove St. by the Brooks Estate. Perhaps part of the same project or as related projects, they also rebuilt and restored the Slave Wall to the south on Grove St., as well as the stone walls abutting the Slave Wall in either direction (about 0.3 miles of wall along Grove St., between Saltonstall Rd. & Tyler Ave).

This part of the wall (in the photo) seems to have some stone that was new that was added to the existing stone. Although it is a dry wall (without mortar) they seem to have also filled in the gaps with new gravel or crushed stone.

The photo shows two places where stones have fallen to the ground toward the curbstones and the road.

This wall is by the Brooks Estate. Just inside the wall are newly placed markers affixed to some of the trees with nails, demarcating a boundary. These markers are green diamonds that say "D.C.R." & "Trustees" (Trustees of Reservations).

I believe the land behind the wall is controlled by the Brooks Estate Preservation Association or a similar affiliated organization. The wall is perhaps on City of Medford land, since it abuts the road so closely.

Did the City of Medford remove this tree after a recent storm? It seems that is the case.

After the tree stump is removed (or concurrently), can the one concrete panel that is uplifted be readjusted and brought down to grade?

Street Sweeping & Emergency Snow Artery sign (all in one) is bent.

The corner is bent and could be straightened with a pair of vise grips.

It also has a longitudinal bend down the middle which could also be straightened.

It has a large scratch, as well, but the sign is still readable.

Though at least the corner should be straightened.

The fact that there is overgrowth where a walkway to the front door could be is their prerogative. But there is plastic trash scattered all around the front yard. A plastic storage bin is off the ground in the thicket.

After 5 p.m. today for about 12 minutes, I picked up most of the pieces of shattered black plastic on the black asphalt surface. Yet, there remain very numerous (hard to see) 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch pieces of black plastic. In the 1st photo (I will add a second photo in a comment, see below) these hard to see black fragments are by the diagonal crack connecting the corner of the curbstones around the dumpster area and the live parking area by the Metal Items dumpster. Could D.P.W. please sweep that spot? I picked up most of the pieces I could easily see and grab while wearing gloves, but there are still very numerous small shards of black plastic by the Metal Items dumpster on the raised sidewalk (in the 1st photo).
