I have been sick for 3 weeks living in a dust bowl due to the storm debris processing behind me. They grind and make mulch which is airborne and covers my lanai and car in a thick blanket of tree dust daily. I can’t open my windows or enjoy my home. I have had upper respiratory problems for 3 weeks and had to take antibiotics. Cant they make the mulch somewhere else away from peoples homes?

I am writing to formally request an investigation into the air quality at my residence located in Saint Petersburg, FL, in relation to confirmed asbestos exposure due to ceiling damage and flooring tiles. Despite multiple requests for repairs, my health concerns have gone unaddressed by my landlord, Steward and Helm Property Management.

On 11/25/2024, I was verbally informed by maintenance staff that asbestos was confirmed in my unit. However, I was not provided with any formal documentation regarding the results of any testing. While the tile was not specifically tested for asbestos, an air quality machine was used during the inspection by The Morgan insurance company following the damage caused by Hurricane Milton. I was never given the results of those tests.

On 11/27/2024, I followed up with a written request to Kathy Curtis regarding the asbestos concerns, and was informed that my request would be forwarded to upper management. After this, I did not receive further communication until 12/20/2024, when Kelsey Harbin from Steward and Helm Property Management left a piece of mail at my door and sent an email requesting a mutual lease termination. The landlord requested that I sign the mutual termination by 12/26/2024, 12:00 pm, but I requested to review the terms before agreeing. I declined to sign the agreement, as I had concerns regarding the terms and the fact that the asbestos issue was not directly addressed in the proposed agreement.

The damage to the ceiling, which includes water stains, cracks, and discoloration, has been ongoing for months, with no repairs made despite multiple requests. The flooring tiles have been broken, leaving areas exposed, and I have repeatedly asked for repairs to be made. I was told that a specialized contractor would be required for the repairs (of the ceiling) on 11/25/2024, but this has not been addressed.

I am requesting that the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County conduct a thorough investigation into the air quality and potential asbestos exposure in my apartment. It is crucial for the health and safety of my family and me that this issue be investigated as soon as possible, as the exposure has already been confirmed verbally, but no formal action or documentation has been provided by the landlord or property management. There is no noticeable smells
