The entire area smell of chemicals this morning. This happens frequently but seems to be worse on Sunday mornings.
The smell seems to come from Gateway Terminal when they are unloading a tanker.
Does anybody know what the regulations are for vapor recovery at this facility and who is responsible for monitoring it? If it smells this strong a half a mile away, they cannot possibly be in compliance.

I've experienced this for years when the wind is from the SE and suspect tankers are unloading. It's awful..
Is there a way to initiate monitoring. Yale environmental science dept? EPA?

Thanks Ben
It would be helpful to know if they are in compliance with state and federal emission regulations. Does anybody have this info?

I find it really strange that nobody else is concerned about this.
The chemical odor from the terminal continues but now there is an additional odor that seems to be around the whole Mill River area and at times, depending on which way the wind is blowing, can be observed all the way to Olive street.
In addition to this we have the Gateway terminal along East street moving huge amounts of salt and sand. There are times, especially when it's windy, when there is such a dust storm over there that it's hard to see. Some days there are hundreds of dump trucks going in and out of there spewing diesel exhaust and dropping material all over East St.
Martinez school is just on the other side of the river and Conte is a short distance away. We wonder why kids are having health issues?
