That said, it THAT isn't blight Ansonia has massive omissions from it's blight ordinance and fixing it needs to be a top priority. In minutes from the P&Z meeting approving the new Cumberland Farms, comments were made by board members about how great it would be to have such a nice looking new store as one of the first things people see entering Ansonia (I'm paraphrasing, but they are right.. the new store looks terrific.)

However, if you're not arriving in Ansonia via Route 8 sound or Division via passing Shell on the other end this home is your "welcome to Ansonia" before you even pass any retail. Thousands of cars that use Atwater to get to Division see this long before any brand new developments meant to spruce up Ansonia's image.

I'm not rendering an opinion, just pointing to the tools that your city currently has.

if you want to see blight stop at 32 Burke St in Ansonia but as you drive by past 61 Hodge Ave look in the back yard and at the addition to the basement, the piece of junk deck, and the abandoned motorhome in the back yard. The front porch columns are not even with the supporting pieces underneath the porch.

What I want to know is why Ansonia administrators, voters and HUD removed and demolished our homes within the Olsen Drive Corridor of the city?
With a visual comparison the now removed buildings were visually 120% better to look at by any visitor or resident compared to what many in this complaint Page refer to as the Farrell, Farrell Lab and associated incubator buildings.
Why does this town historically make decisions that are always AssBackwards which hurt its future for the coming generations?
Generations abandoned the town out of frustration, disorganization and lack of community communication.
Everyone should realize the shocking fact, the middle class is being extinguished forever due to new world economics and subsidized living is the wave of the future.
It just so happens Ansonia is a benchmark in this arena.

THAT SAID, back to the thread's topic.

If the home pictures with a plywood window and "tree" growing from it's roof is not blight by definition in Ansonia, it SHOULD BE. You can't tell me that is how Ansonia officials want thousands of motorists heading to the major commercial district to be greeted.

Before you make a complaint you should get the address right that house is not 108 Division St .

(The owner of said home seeing this post, being rightfully embarrassed beyond words and cleaning up the property before being told to would be nice.)

I am saddened to report the "roof tree" is in full bloom over a year after this was posted the Ansonia's Blight Officer seems to have not done a thing to contact the owner, etc.

First of all if you don't like the roof tree go a different way second in this economy not many people can afford the up keep of properties third the man in that house just passed away last week give his soul and family a break and last I live on division street and I have a weed growing out my gutter also but house is to tall to get to it no money to hire anyone

The City's Blight officer that drafted the current code was dismissed after the last election. I don't know if a new one has been hired.

Homeowners can't let their houses "rot" to the point trees are growing out of the roof! This has been this way for years. If someone there recently passed, I am sorry to hear that. If you do not have the money to maintain your property SELL IT and rent or purchase something you can afford. Thousands of Ansonia residents spend a fortune keeping their homes attractive. Those who won't should find a solution not sit there and let their homes fall apart and board up windows with Plywood.

However, the homeowner seems to like having a piece of rotting plywood covering a second story window as it reminds an eyesore. How much is ONE window at Home Depot and a handyman to install it?!
