Fees charged by city to use beach with out a full time life guard! City of New Haven camps taking children there without asking childrens ability to swim on any camp forms! A near drowning was reported by New Haven Register on the weekend(lifeguard had left 3 hours earlier)...It's time to hold the mayor of New Haven accountable for the safety of the residents!!! We need police on the streets AND lifeguards at our pools and beaches! There needs to be a warning siren and announcement before the lifeguards leave the beaches so people in the water as well as on the beach will know when lifeguards are leaving.

The beach at Lighthouse has been staffed from the end of school thru the labor day weekend for a very long time. The coverage has not changed in the last 15 years.
There are thousands of miles of unguarded beached throughout New England and for that matter throughout the world. The City provides lifeguards a peak times as a service to park users. The provision of lifeguards at certain times is an accepted practicce at local, state and national parks everywhere there are beaches on ponds, lakes and the ocean. The Mayor has supported the safety of the City swimming areas and entrusted the Department of Parks and Recreation to do the right thing in this regard.
Every evening as the lifeguards close the swimming area, they make repeated announcements and clear the water. Additionally, signs are placed warning that Lifeguards are no longer on duty.
I'd suggest that people making posts base their comments on fact not fiction.
