Why has this issue gone unsolved? Almost 4 months.

The same Honda Accord with broken rear windshield and no plates in front yard has been there all summer.
This property still has trash all throughout the yard as it has for years.
For some reason the property does not ever get cleaned up.
Really bad for the neighbors on the street who have clean and neat properties.

Chicopee Police Department ?

An officer spoke to the owner of the RV. The officer was told that nobody is living in the RV and that it is just plugged in to charge the battery in it. It will be moved off the street within the next couple days. The trash and condition of the property is something the Health Department will need to look into.

How long can you park a motorized Camper like that on a public street? Non motorized have a 48 hour limit and theres one on that same street that's worn out their welcome. Please address that chicopee police. = Nonmotorized vehicles (e.g., boats, trailers, campers) may not park on public streets for more than 48 hours. § 260-23

The Health Department is aware. I filled an ordinance change to prevent the parking of RV's on city streets for an extended period of time due to people parking in front of other peoples homes. It never made it out of committee.

Any update on the 2 campers? 1 motorized and 1 pop up/tow camper a few houses down.

Meaning camper 1 and camper 2 are still in the same spots roughly 11 days now?

Months.

Why is it that we have to beg for proactive enforcement and constantly remind departments to follow up on issues that are months old? I’d love to know that answer. Very discouraging.

Because the mayor refuses to acknowledge that we need a code enforcement officer like we used to have. I’ve done everything the law department asked so it could brought to him, and I did. Crickets. Trust me when I say Lisa and her department kicks @ss. There is just way more to do without SCF which I’ve advocated for 6 years to get a part time person to help manage it. At least during the summer months.

Sounds like we should have a "public Input/Question session" while the mayor is still present at your ward councilor meetings?

The owner of the tow behind camper was not home, but the message will be passed on to them to move the camper off the street. We will check again tomorrow. Unfortunately the motorized RV is legally parked and there’s nothing we can do for that.

We know there are people living in it unfortunately it gets said/she said. I’m working with the neighbors to get physical proof. Also reintroducing the ordinance to prevent this.

The extension cord is all you need to know or see as evidence that it's being lived in. Why would you need to charge battery's if it's always vacant? When a camper is sitting unused they have what's called a battery Isolator that disconnects the batteries from the vehicle while not in use. When batteries are disconnected there's no current draw or power being drawn from the batteries. That allows you to store your camper for "Short Periods" of time with the confidence of knowing the batteries are ready to go when you are. NOW if it's being used or lived in daily YES please make sure you have the camper plugged in. Camp on....

We understand that. They say it’s plugged in for the exact reason you stated. But deny anyone is living in it. It’s not the first time they’ve done this unfortunately.

We can send an officer by again to check on this issue.

YUP it’s still there.

Camper is STILL there. So much for ordinances.......

Just waiting on the PD to verify the new ordinance. It hasn't hit the books yet.

Well the PD has been out ticketing it. The owner said it would be removed by last Friday, which we know didn’t happen and then appealed the ticket for which the hearings officer through out so now the owner thinks he’s above the law and is accusing the PD of harassing him. I hope they continue to ticket and I will be speaking with the hearings officer. Bad enough we have judges making their job harder now the city can’t even work together.

And the Mayor just turned down the needed "code enforcement officer" position.

Almost. The towing ordinance passed. Takes a little time to get in the system.

This issue has been referred to the Law Department.

After 7 months it's been moved.
