This park really could use a police officer's presence more often. Generally a very safe part of the park but there are some unsavory characters at dusk (mainly pot smoking) and occasional sex in cars. It would help if the officers who park to write reports would do so in the park rather than on a side road or store parking lot.

I noticed two NHPD officers last night on W. Rock, near the park entrance, approach a vehicle that had been parked with two occupants for hours. The officers must have asked them to leave and I wanted to thank the NHPD for doing rounds in this area. A greater presence, like this, really help Westville and the city. Thank you. Will leave it up to SCF if this should remain open or closed, as it is an ongoing issue but seems to be getting more attention.

While I understand your frustration...its peeving to me that people are approached just for sitting in the car. My guy and I do that all the time...listen to music, enjoy the scenery (another park), talk, etc. We arent doing anything illegal and thats what parks are for! That is wrong to ask people to leave just because they are sitting in their car. However, the other problems are definitely a concern.

GATES must be locked EVERY NIGHT!! This is NHPD responsibility. They know, Parks Director agrees.

930pm 9/29. NHPD car sitting at Fitch/Whalley gate. Can't hurt but I realize this doesn't fix/close this issue. W. Rock gate still open despite Tennis lights off and thus park "closed."

Lighting. As I posted in a related issue, "to light or not to light" after the park is technically closed - either after dark which is the city-wide policy or after permitted after dark uses like lit tennis, softball, soccer, etc. in city parks - is a long debated policy.

I think that locking the gates predictably will help cut the illegal activity reported here. I will try to get this to be a higher priority of NHPD who is responsible for locking the gates nightly.

I thank the neighbors for attending to this gate, but I've continued to advocate this responsibility lies with the City - which for the past several years is NHPD and not Parks who haven't had staff for this function for many years.
