Lack of sidewalk + leaves in the roadway + traffic makes for a very dangerous pedestrian situation
There will be a second pick up scheduled.
I don't care about leaves out, per se. This road (Fairview Rd) is dangerous enough because cars park on it and there's no sidewalk. So people are in the road walking. Add several feet of leaves to that, and it's even worse. My life is not less important than a pile of leaves. But the City of Raleigh doesn't seem to get that sidewalks are a lifesaving issue.
Try to walk from Five Points to Crabtree. You will die. Not only are there no sidewalks, but there's not enough shoulder AND there are trees that go all the way into the road. So I'm not kidding. I feared for my life, got stuck, and stood on the side of a side road and called a rideshare. One of the main roads from two of the well known areas in Raleigh, and you can't get the three miles between them.
Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to drive, so that rescue cost me $15. I can afford it, but not everyone can.
Combine that with Raleigh drivers, and if I lived here a long time it would not be an "if" I was hit, it would be a "when."
Sidewalks are such a basic thing any city who calls itself a city should have. If you have a road that's big enough to have double lines, then it should have a sidewalk. Or at least a shoulder wide enough to safely use. Not double lines and a hard curb. Good luck pedestrians! Try to not die today!
