This crossing signal has had a long response time for years. On a Sunday morning it should change pretty quickly but it doesn't. The question is not if the switch works, but it is how long it takes to trigger the light to change.

I agree that this seems like it has been an issue for years. I reported what I thought was a problem with the call for walk signal back in 2011: https://en-us.seeclickfix.com/issues/121018.

I believe this is a serious public safety issue, because the southbound traffic will often be held with a red light while the northbound traffic continues to have a green light. Because the southbound traffic signal is the only one visible when crossing in a westbound direction, it is very easy to mistake the clearance to walk (despite the don't walk sign). If cars are still moving at a significant rate northbound, it's likely this will eventually lead to a pedestrian accident with serious injuries.

The signal is programmed to be in coordination with the adjacent signals on Chamblee Dunwoody Road for most times of day. A slight delay (less than 2 minutes) between pushing the button and the light changing is necessary in order for the signal to stay in coordination.

Is it possible to unlink the light at that intersection during non rush, non lunch times, so that school children walking home, and other pedestrians can have a break during those time. I drive also, but having to wait as long as 4 minutes as a pedestrian, on week ends and during non rush hours is a headache, when trying to walk. Also, it seems that the left turn signal northbound could be linked with the cross signal for the 15 seconds or so it takes people to cross the street. Having to wait in non traffic times, when even with the left turn signal is in it's left turn mode is kind of frustrating. Especially, when as a driver, the left turn signal will allow left turns, and continued northbound traffic to proceed, when it could just interrupt that traffic for 30 seconds before allowing full north and south traffic immediately after that. There are very few times when there are left turns needed coming from Chamblee Dunwoody onto northbound Roberts, even when it is rush hour. I have seen children running the road in the pedestrian crosswalk, without the green light or the pedestrian crossing light in their favor, because the wait time is so long. One of them may be yours some day!

The signal is programmed so that the time to cycle, depending on the time and day, is between 68 and 127 seconds so there should not ever be an instance when a pedestrian waits 4 minutes to cross.
