Description
There are constantly people speeding up and down the street. Would it be possible to get a four-way stop at the corner of 20th and Lincoln that might help cut down some of the speeding. There are kids who play here all the time and they take their lives in their hands.

Before COVID, that was a designated school bus stop so there was what four or five school buses stopping there in the morning and in the evening!
Especially now that the street is smooth, you can cruise from 21st to 17th not stopping at all. That's why we don't park on Lincoln! Thank you for posting this problem!

We apologize for the delay as it seems this ticket unfortunately got stuck in limbo when we tried to transfer it to the correct department. Traffic engineering now officially has this ticket and have added it to our queue for study. We will evaluate this intersection to determine what is appropriate for this intersection.
This ticket will remain open until our study has concluded. Any questions or comments can be submitted either here or you can reach us at 785-368-3842. We will begin our study as soon as we are able to.
Thanks!

Here is what I know:
Thanks again for the opportunity to provide an update to the Chesney Park NIA last evening regarding the traffic study being performed in the Chesney Park
neighborhood.
Aached is the Informaon Sheet that was provided at the meeng. The only change to the informaon sheet that we discussed during our meeng last night
was to re-evaluate traffic in the neighborhood in 4 years instead of 3-years as Braxton outlined the upcoming projects between 2023 and 2025 which will be
affecng traffic on the arterials surrounding the neighborhood and in-turn affecng travel within the neighborhood.
Based on our conversaon, the NIA is supporve of the recommendaons provided in the “dra” traffic study. This includes the NIA reaching out to your
residents to obtain feedback regarding support for “traffic calming” on Lincoln and/or Fillmore.
You shared that the city will be invited to aend their March 2024 NIA meeng where we can discuss the input by the residents regarding “traffic calming”
treatments and we will bring examples to share at the meeng.
Based on the findings and results of the analysis, we recommend:
— Install 36” x 36” x 36” R1-2 “Yield” signs for east and west approaches to intersection of SW Hampton St & SW Buchanan St with temporary red flags. (Figures 5 & 6)
— Replace 36” x 36” x 36” R1-2 “Yield” signs in intersection of SW Central Park Ave & SW 18th St with 30” x 30” R1-1 “Stop” signs with temporary red flags. Install W4-4P “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” sign below Stops. (Figure 7)
— Replace 36” x 36” x 36” R1-2 “Yield” signs in intersection of SW Central Park Ave & SW 19th St with 30” x 30” R1-1 “Stop” signs with temporary red flags. Install W4-4P “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” sign below Stops.
— Obtain feedback from the neighborhood regarding any traffic calming needs on the north/south residential streets. As noted previously, SW Lincoln St and SW Fillmore St have a small percentage of vehicles traveling at between 35 mph – 40 mph which are only two streets that have vehicles traveling at this rate of speed in the neighborhood.
— Chesney Park NIA will reach out to their residents to obtain feedback regarding support for “traffic calming” on Lincoln and/or Fillmore.
— The city will be invited to attend the March 2024 NIA meeting where the city can discuss the input by the residents regarding “traffic calming” treatments and we will bring examples to share at the meeting.
— Reevaluation of neighborhood in four (4) years to allow for planned construction projects on SW 21st Street and SW Topeka Blvd. to be constructed.
