The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request # 543699. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

i'm truly sorry about your reported incident but I want to stress that several weeks ago I wrote about something similar that faces cyclists on e. 28th street! there are now two holes (there used to be one?) and so far, despite the danger, NOTHING has been done. i'm not sure what has to happen before someone realizes that Oakland citizens are at risk. several months ago, my neighbor broke his foot on uneven pavement. I don't believe people are requesting the city of Oakland repave these streets-- how about an effective pothole fix!!

Yours is a sad and tragic story. I have tripped and fallen in a pothole in a crosswalk. I had a nasty bruise and some bloody scrapes. These poorly maintained streets are a danger to the steering on cars, bicycles, and pedestrians alike. Nothing effective is being done. Public Works posts the same sad excuse about money problems. Why doesn't the City Council ask Bill Gates, the richest man in the United States or billionaire George Soros or any other multi-billionaire for $500,000,000 dollars to FIX IT NOW before more peopled are seriously injured.

Due to the danger to cyclists, this issue was submitted on October 30 to Oakland as a "TOP 10" for immediate attention under an agreement with the Bike East Bay Hazard Elimination program.

Park Blvd is just dangerous in general. If it's not the potholes, it's the reckless drivers. I live on Park, and drive and walk it daily. There are times that I am truly scared to use that street and have been in an accident just pulling out of my own driveway.

The pothole fills are only band aids for the major bleeders on this road. It's caused enough damage to my car, let alone what it'll do to cyclists. Some will swallow a wheel whole. It needs serious attention before someone is drastically injured or killed. The current rains are only making it worse and these problems should been addressed ages ago. end rant >

Nearly all of Park Blvd is now on the city's 5 year paving plan (http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/pwa/documents/agenda/oak044963.pdf) which will likely occur sooner rather than later due to the amount of traffic, speeds, and current conditions of the street. There is also an ongoing effort that you may be aware of to reconfigure and restriped Park to help reduce speeds and make the street safer for pedestrians and people on bikes. The potholes still need to be taken care of in the near term to at least prevent some crashes before the whole street can be fixed.
