My dog had a seizure 3 nights in a row in exactly the location on 8th St, under the turnpike. Might be a coincidence - my dog is old and has health issues. But I thought it may have been triggered by chemicals from the turnpike construction or train tracks. Given it's proximity to Enos Jones and Dickinson I thought it worth reporting.
More detail:
my dog is pretty old - he's over 10 years. And has some chronic health issues including hip dysplasia, cardiomyopathy and an inoperable growth above his heart. We ran a full set of tests after he nearly drowned 6 months ago - he actually died, but we used CPR to revive him. The vet said he could pass suddenly at any time...
But a strange thing happened 3 nights in a row in the identical location - on 8th St, just under the turnpike. He collapsed with what looked like a seizure. It might simply be a sign of deteriorating health. I believe they've been using chemicals during the construction on that section of the Turnpike - it created a noticeable smell all the way to HP over the past number of weeks. Also I know PSEG had that section of the park "flagged" last week NW of the bleachers.

This is very unsafe & disturbing. It's wrong, a mistake & unfair to leave chemical spills near construction sites. While parties can blame each other (construction workers, company, city law officials, etc), the dog community cannot wait for all this. We just want a permanent & safe fixture to this chemical spill so that 8th st can become a safe place for dog owners & their dogs & kids.
Please at least post signs saying "restricted area due to chemical spillage" so that people who don't know about this issue don't go near that area. REMEMBER THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION. JUST A WARNING FOR YOUR EVERYONE'S GOOD.

1) Already three dog owners have seen the side effects of the chemical spill on the 8th street turn pike.This is the biggest reason why you should take action.The dog owners were lucky to have caught their dogs condition on time.Will you have to wait for a dog to die from this for this to be taken seriously enough?
2) The chemical smell near HPK has been lingering for weeks & PSEG had a section flagged off. This plus the dog incidents given by three dog owners is enough to warrant a through investigation and explanation with a PERMANENT SAFETY SOLUTION.
Mostly, the dog owner's community in Jersey City comprises of very responsible & caring citizens & volunteers of the city that will go at great lengths to enforce pet laws & have mostly done whatever they can to keep the community clean & safe. (see parks,dog runs,cleaning side walks/trash off the streets, plowing snow etc). Please listen to us & respect the dogs & dog owners of Jersey City. Let's work hand in hand to resolve this issue.

Whatever happened to following OSHA STANDARDS?
SIMPLE PREVENTION: Post signs or boards with "RESTRICTED" & "HAZARDOUS WASTE" both. Put police tape around the area if you have to.
PERMANENT FIXTURE: Investigate thoroughly,warn & inform those responsible for this chemical spill. It's a "spill = mistake". Please press contractor/company workers & officials so that they can reach a good spill prevention plan that they can actually FOLLOW & IMPLEMENT.
Please keep us updated on the progress of this. Maybe we can report past & future accidents (if any) so that you have enough information at your end to press the people who are responsible for this. I agree with JerseyCityNewbie. We should work hand in hand with this issue. We will do our best to spread the word so people avoid the area entrusting you with fixing of this issue.
