I have seen this location posted now in three separate locations on SeeClickFix in the past two weeks, but no Fix. This large puddle of water that forms at Grove & Hillhouse at any level of rainfall will become quite dangerous when you add in winter snow and ice. Remember that bicyclists and pedestrians need to pass through this intersection; it is not only cars having to deal with this. Please fix it before somebody gets hurt.
lora is absolutely right. If it's clogged drains it's better to clear them now than to have ice form later and get slipping people and sliding cars and bikes.
If you look in the blue pages of your phone book,, or google the city of new haven, then you can find the phone numbers too.
On 11/26/14 Yale facilities staff bulldozed leaves from the gutters away from these catch basins, alleviating the flooding. They were subsequently cleaned by the city's contractor on 11/28/14. They had been previously cleaned in September 2014.
This year has been a particularly long fall, with leaves taking between six weeks and two months to drop, as opposed to the usual 2 to 3 weeks. As there are still many leaves on private lots, it is expected that localized flooding will continue throught the winter months when rain washes them into the gutters, blocking the drains. This problem can be minimized by residents clearing and bagging leaves, and also by removing them from catch basin gratings. This issue is now CLOSED. Please re-post if the drains get blocked again.
