Description
The corner of Butterfield and Grommet gets a lot of traffic and cars, trucks, buses, and vans fly down the road. You should consider making this a 4 Way Stop. There is also work vans parking at the intersection which makes it impossible to see oncoming traffic. Maybe no parking signs by the intersection could help as well.

Thank you for contacting our office with your concern/suggestion. Our office is required to follow all applicable Federal and State warrants in regard to installing multi way stop signs. In accordance with both Federal and State manuals for traffic control devices installing a stop sign for the purpose of traffic calming or speed control is prohibited. Stop signs are only to be installed to assign right of way. Additionally, 4-way stop signs are not to be installed at intersections where traffic volume is not equal in all directions. In order to qualify for a multiway STOP control, the combined vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle volume entering the intersection from the minor street approaches (total of both approaches) averages at least 200 units per hour for 8 hours during a day. Total vehicular volume entering intersection from major street approaches (total of both approaches) averages at least 300 vehicles per hour for any 8 hours of the day.
Also, sight distance has been performed at this intersection on 08.07.2023, and federal warrants at this intersection are not satisfied.
Vehicles not stopping at stop signs is a violation of Maryland vehicle law. Please contact Howard County Police Department non-emergency number at 410.313.2929 for enforcement.
Thank you for contacting our office with your concern. I apologize our office is unable to assist you further with your request.
