Thats what happen when the city have a mayor that dosn't care about the neiborhoods. He only cares about the down town area. There is were all his family and friends work.
Call John Prokop at Public Works 203-946-7700 (or email at jprokop@newhavenct.net). He attended our Hill South Management Team Meeting on this past Wednesday and advised all who have questions, concerns or complaints about totes not being pickec up to call him. He will investigate why and will have them picked up.
I have this problem on my street also but it is because some of my neighbors are putting non-recyclable stuff in the blue totes. Some just won't recycle but the 'grace period' has ended so they won't be picked up and the residents/owners will be notified and might be fined. Some have too much trash to fit in the brown totes; if that is the case they can and should call public works to request another brown tote or they should put their extra trash in a bag on top of or next to the brown tote.
Recycling will benefit all, some people just need to be educated on the benefits. Less waste for the city to dispose of saves $ which can be passed on to more jobs, more programs and less taxes. Less waste is also good for the planet so it's a 'win-win' situation for all.
So Call John and tell him someone who attended the meeting told you that he said 'IF you have a problem call him' but make sure he gets back to you with WHY the tote wasn't picked up. We have to hold our town officials accountable but also our neighbors. Also, if you don't already go, you are invited to attend the Hill South Management Team Meetings held at 6:00pm on the third Wednesday of each month at the Howard Avenue Police Substation. We have lots of information brought to us (from City, Police, Hospital, etc.), we ask lots of questions and get losts of answers. We do things and get things done.
