Description

The tree needs to be trimmed. All branches hanging over the roof need to be removed. It is causing clogged drains on the roof, which leaks into my tenant's apartment upstairs.

Klauss Roofing agreed the cause of the leaks is from leaves/debris from the overhanging tree.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chip. I went on the roof myself and cleared the drains before submitting this request. Just trying to prevent further issues for myself and my neighbors. All the best.

Many of us in the neighborhood have the same issues with large trees overhanging roofs. The gutters just have to be cleared every three months or so, except in winter. The fall is particularly important. The solution isn’t to cut branches off mature trees which can seriously endanger the tree’s health.

And all of the trees behind the houses on Lancaster and Chestnut between dove and lark, need to be trimmed or removed. They are causing damage, and the homeowners refuse to do anything about it. The city needs to step in and clean out the trees.

Trees absolutely need to be properly pruned away from buildings. This gives access to squirrels who gnaw wires and into attics. Branches also give insects access and should never be overhanging roofs.

JDG, thank you. I would regularly clean the roof drains of my neighbors as a courtesy, but it is frustrating when homeowners ignore this simple task and shirk their responsibility. If you are downhill from them, their backup becomes your roof lake.
