There is no good category to file this complaint and if I need to come in to file a police report, please advise. The picture shows our neighborhood bus stop. The bus for elementary students arrives at 7:20-7:22 each morning. There are 5-6 cars each morning (several driven by people who do not reside in the neighborhood but either use the in home daycare at 2024 Old Home Ave or simply choose this stop)that start to line the street parallel to one another each morning as early as 7:10. They park illegally making the road impossible to pass safely and they park on people’s lawns. This has been happening for over a year. In the last 10 days, it has escalated to a problem. Those operating the vehicles have been asked to park on one side to allow for safe passage or to walk their children to their stop. They have refused. It’s causing safety issues and my child (a new driver) and myself - along with my husband and 18 year old son are forced to weave in and out of traffic to get to work. We have tried taking to them and have even adjusted our schedules to leave earlier,but they seem insistent on standing their ground and have recently been arriving earlier and earlier. There is only one way in and out of the culdasac. They are obstructing traffic. In warmer weather, they let their children play in the middle of the street while waiting for the bus. I have driven by and they have carelessly swung open a car door. I have video showing the tight passage. When I have asked for their help in making the roadway safe for everyone they either ignore the request or make claims that because I am trying to get through I am “driving like a lunatic”. I have always yielded to the bus and driven well below the speed limit when passing through this area. I have followed the bus and there is no other stop in which cars are blocking the roadway like this. I have called the county and asked for their help. They indicate that their regulations ask that parents walk to the stop with their children and keep them out of the way of traffic; however, they indicated this is a police issue not an AACPS issue. I am asking for help to ensure no one gets hurt.
