Um wow no! This is beloved art work for the entire community to enjoy. You people think you own that whole street. Disgusting attitude.

Beloved by whom? At the very least it should be painted by professional graphic artists, of which there are many in Jersey City. This area is not grafe school playground.

Of all the things to complain about, the art??! Get a life and maybe do something about all the trash in this area instead. Or the countless other issues in the ward.

Of all the things to complain about - the art? Wow. There are countless other issues you could advocate on in the ward - trash, unsafe conditions for pedestrians, cars not moving for street cleaning, poor street lighting. To expend it on this - baffling!

I prefer the art to the mountains of rotting garbage the Saint John’s apartment management leaves out to fester all weekend or the huge beautiful trees they are destroying in one of their many parking lots. But no we can not have art for the peasants that don’t live inside the gated community.

Leave it to someone from a gated community to whine about this rather than doing anything productive to fix the neighborhood. Unbelievable that you want to paint over artwork made by local children as part of a community event.

Nancy, I encourage you to read But Is It Art? by Cynthia Freeland to broaden your horizon on what is and isn't art (spoiler: it all is). Public art has been proven time and time again to improve neighborhoods. Perhaps if the residents of St. John's took care of the commons outside of their gates, there would not be a need for the city to clean it up.

Kim is there any way to request this NOT be removed? as other commenters here (at least 3 or 4 more residents than the original complainant) have requested that the artwork stay. I understand the desire to streamline the area, but I agree with others that this type of artwork, while not critically talented, beautifies the community and specifically allows kids in the community to make their mark.

I don’t find it fair that ONE person can complain about something like this and that request will be fulfilled. Isn’t this a democracy?
This isn’t about litter or safety or construction where one person is enough to begin an investigation … this is about destruction of art without an investigation. This should be held to a petition not this graffiti department.

It is not fair but it often happens with that building. Two former councilpersons live there, a county commissioner and other very connected individuals who make calls and get their way despite what is in the best interest of our community. It is disheartening.
