Can the downtown ambassadors do anything? This is unacceptable.

Almost every problem we have in New haven revolves around the bus stops and methadone clinics when are we going to wake up and put an end to this crap.

Sorry I could have been more clear. I'm looking for a end to the hub and spoke bus system that dumps everyone off in the center of new haven.

As far as methadone the centers should be equally spread out through out the state and they should be required to test all patents for drugs before dispensing more drugs.

If we just implemented these sensible solutions we see a marked decrease in so many crimes in the downtown area.

I'm with Aly. I think we should stay focused on the problem documented here. I'm a big fan of the buses and understand that addiction services are a necessity.

The solution is for Mayor Harp to be as diligent in her attention to the east side of the Green as to the West. There should not be such an obvious difference between the west side of Temple St, that has lots of police presence, ambassadors, and other attention to keep the area looking nice for Yale people, and the east side of Temple St that looks abandoned by the City.

I don't think police treat the west vs east side any different and I can tell you that the town green district spend 600k a year on clean and safe and concentrate heavily on the east and south sides of the green. So much so they paid to have the police sub-station moved there. Yale and the Green itself are not within the town green district. Is there something on the east side of the green the dose not exist on the west side that creates this difference?

Do you think it would change the attitudes of folks if the bus areas were more engaging, or if the empty lots on Chapel were filled with businesses that appealed to folks so they didn't spend as much time waiting for the bus and standing around, bored, but had something interesting for them to look at or talk about?

Maybe not new construction, but rotating public art or popup shops? I'd love to give the street vendors a nice place to congregate to make a small outdoor market. I think that was being discussed as an option for the corner of Chapel and Orange at some point during the dog park debate.

Aly I think that's a great idea but "the lot" at orange and chapel will be conveyed to the developer to teardown the 3 sisters building and put up new construction on both parcels shortly.

Really? Isn't that the palladium building? I thought it was historic.

Unless you mean the lot kitty-corner with the blightastrophic building at 810 Chapel (or so) that's been boarded up for years.

Josh, you may not think that the west and east sides of the Green show much difference, but.. look again.. the west side has Phelp's Gate, Battell Chapel, Yale security, the Old Campus, nice shops, ambassadors and street cleaners,, while the east side has bus stops, street and sidewalk all in need of repair, vagrants, no police presence and is near to being squalid. oh, the Mayor's office is on the east side like an ivory tower up there.
