City engineers supposedly had a solution a few years ago but that never materialized. All the while the good folks on Green Hill have been working their tails off to put enhanced landscaping in their front yards to get drivers to slow down (thanks to them for beautifying the area!). Unfortunately the city doesn't recognize these grassroots efforts nor shows an interest in enforcing basic traffic laws.

Agreed with above comments. I frequently cross the street at this intersection and cars don't slow down or stop for pedestrians and continue to pick up great speed as they travel down Green Hill Terrace.

I would like to see a roundabout or some kind of island in the middle of this open space to encourage cars to slow down.

I agree with all the comments especially with JB. The community would greatly appreciate a roundabout or island of sorts to slow the traffic down a bit. The City refuses to pay attention until someone is seriously injured. Sad, truly sad!

Petition was signed by property owners over a year ago and nothing has been done. Now that it is summer, the traffic will increase and so will the drag racing, illegal street bikes, etc! It's ridiculous that someone has to be hurt before anything is corrected. I can barely park my car on the street and exit my vehicle safely. I was actually hit from the back in a hit and run, because the car was driving so fast.

I thought that the city used SeeClickFix as a tool to track issues such as this? I'm surprised it has not been acknowledged by the city, and no update has been provided on the petition. This is a very problematic area and I hope there is a resolution soon.

Yeah, many of us have gone to meeti gs, signed petitions, etc. Nothing changes. If we lived in the wealthier section of westville then maybe something would happen. They did a great job on edwards st across town. Doug hauslaiden makes a lot of false promises. Im done going to meetings.

Just a few weeks back Christopher stopped by and asked if we would be interested in speed bumps. I told him we wanted our street to become a one way street instead from my end going towards Whalley Avenue. I think that would significantly reduce the speeding and the traffic. Our street has become a short cut for those traveling on 63 or into West Haven area. Something has to be done before someone gets seriously hurt and I can tell you If it's me getting hurt I will go after the city with full vengeance.

So I saw our Alderman Brakeem and Christopher the Director for traffic for our city on Saturday and Christopher's idea is to have speed humps installed on our street, because it would slow down traffic. I then reminded him that we all signed a petition last year and requested our street to become a one way. He said "I will not be placing that as one of the recommendations" and further stated that the speeding issue would only transfer from one side of the road to the other. I completely disagree but he wasn't trying to listen to anything. If we get speed bumps on our road that will reduce our property value and create more noise as the traffic drives through especially utility trucks. We need to all stand strong and fight this. If not we may end up with something none of us wants!!!

Oh and he stated they are trying to move on this fairly quickly. Any idea of when the next city meeting will be?

quite a few years ago, a little girl was hit while riding her bike. She was ok, but you would think after that incident alone, something would have been done.

@AB- the speed humps have been great for us on Lawncrest. I haven't noticed more noise as a result of them.Actually, much less now that cars aren't flying down the street at unfathomable speeds.

I read an article from 2015 in regards to speed humps and prpperty value. 15 different realtors from 4 different cities commented on the issue. They said that anytime they showed property where speed humps were in the road, it did not negatively affect the buyer, nor did it affect property value. If anything, potential buyers avoided busy streets and some said that it was a good thing that the community took speeding seriously enough to want to do something about it.

The reason why it negatively impacts the property value is based on the awareness there is a speeding problem. Not to mention the ugly signs that have to be posted saying there are speed bumps ahead. I'd rather not have speed humps and there have been many studies to show how it negatively impacts the property values. It may not be by hundreds of thousands of dollars, but any negative financial impact can be impactful for any family. Also what will this do to our taxes? Will our property taxes increase because of the installation of these said speed bumps? I'm just a little concerned that the only solution the city seems to have is installing speed bumps. If we calculate the amount of money each property owner just on our street pays I'm sure that amount is way over $100,000. Why is this the only solution the city of New Haven is willing to give us? I'll tell you why, because it's the most inexpensive route they can take. Georgia officials wanted to increase taxes on each homeowners by $12.00 per household in order to continue to maintain the speed bumps. Chicago was looking at increasing property taxes because of the maintenance of the road and speed bumps. This may not impact us right now but it will give city officials a road to go down later and tax Greenhill Terrace homeowners a higher mill rate. I'm completely against speed bumps and can tell you I WILL NOT LEAVE THIS ALONE!!!! I absolutely refuse to listen to our city officials try to sell us this BS. AB: I appreciate your response, but the one "article" you cite is from a manufacturer of radar signs- consider your sources.
Not to defend the city, because I certainly agree that they haven't done enough to help with the problem of speeding in our neighborhood (and stop sign running, and littering, etc), but they don't have enough cops to post on your corner all day. The other design solution would be to make Green Hill more narrow. There's no free solution, no solution that doesn't come from taxes (a speed hump alone will not increase the mill rate for the city), and certainly no solution that will please everyone.

What solution do you propose?

I just want to put it out there that I started calling the non emergency police number (203-946-6316) when I hear/ see people driving erratically. Yesterday there were people on quads or dirt bikes going probably 50mph down the street and I called immediately. They said that they were going to send an officer to the neighborhood. While it's unlikely they are going to catch these rogue drivers, at least there will be a record backing up our claims that Green Hill Terrace is a problematic area. Maybe if EVERYONE did this they would take our concerns seriously.

I could live with speed humps if that's all that the city is willing to offer since people will have no choice but to slow down. However, I would definitely prefer for the street to be narrowed or turned into a one way. Residents have been working on beautification of our properties, and I think we should take that to the city and make a point that speed bumps and ugly signs don't fit in with that mission.

Also, has anyone talked to any of the Lawncrest Road residents about the speed bumps that were installed on that street? Maybe someone from that street can provide some insight into how the process with the city works.

Re: The Quad- I haven't seen it drive around the neighborhood but the house at the corner of Grene Hill and Frederick (I think it's the SW corner) is where the quad and loud go-cart are stored. I see them working on them in the driveway. Never called the police since I've never seen the vehicles on the road.

I have been very happy since the speed humps have been installed. I live right at the 90 degree bend on Lawncrest and the cars used to go whipping by, tires screeching. Now they can't go as fast. I think the only downside to the humps has been that it's redirected the jerks to your street.

I filled out a complete streets form over 6 years ago while Richard Miller was still in charge over there. I have been listening to their BS promises ever since.
