This family is always drinking and always drunk. one son did leave to go to live with his girlfriend. the mom constantly takes in animals. the last i knew there were over 15 animals, not just dogs and cats. the home is horrible, broken windows, bad roof, trash everywhere. Is someone from the city going to look into this?

I don't understand why nothing has done about this home, they also take in anyone who doesn't have a place to go. my friends son moved in there and said the conditions are horrible (tries not to stay there often). How do the closest neighbors deal with the smell and all the drunkeness? Most importantly how do the occupants deal with it, i guess they are desensitized.

I would hope that some relief would come soon, especially with the weather getting warmer the stench is going to be unbearable. Come on pigeons, all the dogs(what do they do with the dead dogs that get into fights) cats, rats, flies, mold, falling in celings and god only know what else. From the person that wrote the first post the drunkeness and abusiveness should also be addressed not for the adults but for the children especially the autistic child.

has anyone contacted the housing or health depts in west haven they will check it apparently none of the neighbors are complaining to the authorities

i have complained numerous times to the health dept. , the building dept. ,and the zoneing dept. and the animal dept. i have been told they will look into it . the pound said the dogs are all up to date on shots and they said we've seen worse and they told them to clean up the feces and urine and that should help with the oder. no one ever came back. west haven does not have a limit on the number of animals a person can have.

i also called dcf and they were put on probation but they never came back, they were also told the date they would be coming, she boarded her dogs and they cleaned for days.,however they worker said she couldn't take the oder and never went farther than the kitchen. right now one dog has a broken foot from being steped on on 8/28 . they are still looking for a vet to fix it on a payment plan and she is giving it pain killers

There was a watch area created for the Health Dept. and email was sent to the Director.

i dont understand what these departments are for if not to help the tax payers. these people talk to you and make you feel like they are listening and are as concerned as you are but then when you hang up its as if you never spoke to any one. i feel like its all a wate of time.

These sound like property maintenance issues that come under the Building Department's Housing Code enforcement, call for the Housing Code Officer at 937-3590. And DCF and the Animaal Shelter too....if still no response call the Mayor's Office 937-3510.

i have contacted all of the above departments on more than one occasion,and also the police department about the dog with the broken foot that is been broken for 6 days.

well today 3 baby squirels fell out of the whole in the kitchen ceiling , and our now being keeped as pets in the front room . they also had a grown squirel fall into the tub ,that ceiling fell in 1 yr. ago, in the downstairs bathroom. the dog has had surgery to fix the foot that was injured 10 days before. i will be calling the dog warden and the mayor again tomorrow,but i don't have faith that any thing will be checked. they have patched the 3 wholes that the mice had made in the front room. they catch about 5 a day and release them at painter park. when they took a piano out 45 days ago ,20-25 mice ran out and scadered.

It sounds like a call to the Housing Code Inspector (937-3590)would be a good idea so that they get the landlord to repair the holes where such animals are coming in to the house.

i contacted houseing code inspecter 5 months ago and was told they would come with a police officer because there has been documented violence and arrests,but no one came. as far as contacting the landlord,they own it.

Please follow up with that department, their supervisor or the mayor's office, sorry for this delay.

Thanks for being so responsive.
There has been a watch area created for the Mayor so he has been alerted to this. I do not have an email for the Housing Inspector as it is not published on the city's website.
It would probably be good for them to see this complaint and future complaints that are similar.

I have contacted all of those depts too and alerted the mayor's office of this website to take a look. If everybody starts sending emails to the mayor and calling and DCF maybe something will be done its disgusting!!!!!

I would like the mayor to make a comment on this situation since it seems like nothing is being done. Mr Mayor can you look into this and comment here to give us concerned citizens an update.

well the dog warden was here ,but they did not open the door. a note was left saying they would be back and will need to go in. they have been cleaning since thursday. they are trying to cover up stuff on the 1st floor that they think might be a code violation.nothing is being fixed on they 2nd floor.i just wish they werent given notice because as soon as the warden gets in things will go back. they are trying to keep all they cats up stairs because not all have been fixed or vaccinated.

today the dog warden came and gave them a green ticket,didnot no he is a speed reader . he was in the home a total of 6 minutes and 39 seconds, and was able to check 13 dogs and 15 cats,2 parrakeets 1 monk parrot 1 cockatiel and 3 squirrals and check all paper work . amazing! i did not think squirrals were allowed to be keeped as pets ,and i would think a kitchen and bedroom would be to small to keep 13 dogs and a small hallway as 2 dogs are collies. i guess west haven is one of the few towns in ct that allows this! its a disgrace.i thought there was a law that you cannt keep wildlife like squirrels in a home without a special license. . on the other things they feel that painting over the mold and putting a tarp on some of the holes in the roof,and making things look a little better they can pass all code violations.they were right when they said they it would work , because city employees dont really do a good job. some of ther trash they but out in front of someone else 's house on the end of bassett court on richard.

Obviously the last poster lives nearby. Thanks for the updates and please continue to keep us updated. They are disgusting and a disgrace to the neighbors and the nearby people and something needs to be done about them. Not only are they disgusting but abusive too. Maybe they are paying someone off in other ways than monetary, if you know what I mean. If we keep complaining maybe someone will go further than the kitchen and investigate the whole house. What does a green ticket mean? probabally nothing right? AS THE OLD SAYING GOES---THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE OIL, KEEP COMPLAINING TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES AND THEY WILL GET TIRED AND MAYBE FINALLY DO SOMETHING.

The more people watching, the quicker that issues get resolved. It might even be worth setting up a 'watch area' for the state representative from this area.

well the door was kicked in by police for something but the animals were removed(yahoo) AND THE HOUSE WAS DEMED INHABITAL!

And to boot, the mother works or worked for a veterinary hospital, you would think she would know better, go figure. On top of all the animals all they do is drink and the father works or worked for a beer distributor, how convienient.

Case Closed?

well I think this schould not be case closed. these issues should have been addresed by any or at least one of the departments notified. the dog warden was there 3 weeks ago and did not do his job. there are alot of people that should have done there job and didnt,they sould give resons for that . i pay my taxes ,these people at city hall work for the people of west haven and as one of them i want answers! what if a warrent was not issued for a different reason, what would of happened ?more frustration becuse complaints arent answered and these people have or feel they dont have to, that maybe some other department will ? doesnt seem right.
