I also live on Regent Street and agree with Deirdre and Michael. The traffic is heavy and the speed of most cars is well above the 15 mph limit. Parking is difficult so parents of pre-school children often have to walk them across Regent Street while cars race past at high speeds. The problem is compounded by the cars parked along the street, school busses at the Waldorf School in the morning and afternoon, individual cars that drop off and pick up students there, and cars entering and exiting the parking lot behind that school. There are also cars entering and exiting the alley in front of the school. Children of all ages are everywhere and the people that are using Regent Street as a cutoff to avoid the light at the Circular and Union Streeet corner seem unaware of the children or the speed limit. The entry and exit to the Empire State College parking lot is close to the Union Street corner, which makes it very busy at certain times of the day, so the perception is that Regent Street will allow them to avoid that. That perception is making Regent Street a very unsafe street.
