Please adjust the traffic signal for 55th Street crossing Shattuck Ave so that when a pedestrian pushes the walk button on one corner the walk signal light comes on for both the north and south legs of the intersection (currently only the leg where the button was pushed gets a walk light). Also, please change the signal so that traffic a green light always comes on for both east and westbound traffic even if traffic is only detected in one direction. Currently, if someone arrives late to the intersection they first see a red light which turns green as they approach. This can cause confusion over who has the right of way. Also, this intersection desperately needs "hot" walk signals for 55th crossing Shattuck, so that pedestrians who push the button partway through a green phase can still get a walk light. North and south bound Shattuck also need either a left turn pocket (by removing car parking at the intersection) or separate out the north and southbound traffic into different phases so that left turners onto 55th don't back up traffic.

Len, there has been no change to this signal actuation to prefer 55th Street. The signal is actuated, not timed, so the video cameras detect traffic and turn the signal green when they see someone waiting. As far as I can tell the signal preference is actually for Shattuck Ave, at least during daytime hours, and 55th Street only gets a green when a pedestrian presses the walk signal button or a bike rider or driver waits at the red light.
The pedestrian and bike actuation issues I reported earlier, where one side of the street gives a green light or walk signal but not the other does not yet been addressed, and the pedestrian signals are still not calibrated to give a walk light if the button is pressed just a little bit after the light goes green, or by default during every green phase regardless of a button push. Making these changes would improve pedestrian and bike safety without adding a single second of delay for traffic on Shattuck.
