CT Livable Streets Campaign (مستخدم مسجل)
The entire road is being completely repaved this spring/summer. Great for cyclists and people who don't like to drive on bumpy roads, but it will enable people to drive at much faster speeds than they already do.
Considering how many pedestrians have been hit or "almost" hit by cars on this street within the past couple of years, including a Yale professor who was killed recently on the Hamden section, I'm not sure that the increased speed will be such a great thing. We need to start realizing that the way we design streets is a direct cause of injury and death, and that those deaths are completely preventable through better design. To make matters worse, high speed streets discourage people from walking and interacting with their neighbors, which erodes the social fabric and public health of a community in very significant ways.
It would be great if there were some speed mitigation measures as part of the project. Contact your state legislators and urge them to support "complete streets" policies so that the DOT realizes this is a huge issue; ask your local elected officials if anything can be done to make the street more livable.
