Recommend putting a left turn lane into The Taste restaurant on First Court road when turning left off Shore Drive westbound. Traffic will back up onto Shore Drive in the summer without the turn lane.

Traffic Engineering has reviewed the situation and has the following response:
The Traffic Engineering division has reviewed your submitted concern with the intersection of Shore Dr and First Court Road with regards to the entrance/exit to the Taste business. We do recognize the potential safety issue with traffic backing up into the intersection on Shore Dr due to left turn traffic on First Court Rd having to cross three lanes to get into the business. To start with it is unlawful for motorists to enter into and intersection unless they can fully clear the intersection, which if this become a real problem then additional enforcement actions can be requested from the local police precinct. In order to actually install additional travel lanes on First Court Rd would require a tremendous amount of work that includes, but is not limited to:
• Underground facility relocation (stormwater and private utilities)
• Above ground utility relocation (overhead power, communications, street lights)
• Additional right-of-way will have to be purchased to accommodate the new travel lane
• Relocation of the existing pedestrian facilities on this side of the roadway
• Minor changes to the alignment of First Court Rd to accommodate the new travel lane
• Landscaping and other site impacts
These improvements would be construed as helping the business as opposed to aiding traffic safety, which the City cannot do. This type of improvement is normally requested and done by the business, which under the plan review process when Taste was rebuilt did not come up as a plan review comment for the need of an exclusive left turn lane onto the business..
If there are additional questions with this issue please do not hesitate to contact our office at 385-4131.

I appreciate the very complete response. I thought there was sufficient road to draw the lines so there was a left turn into the business vice the right turn lane that was there previously. Was hoping you could paint the new lines during the repaving. As the lines are painted temporarily, cars are in the shoulder lane next to the "park"
Would appreciate if you could at least paint the road as the lines were previously, which allowed motorists to pass on the right, illegally I understand, but it precluded someone getting T-boned on Shore Drive.
I have driven the road for 40+ years to visit my parents and just trying to avoid an accident. Thank you again
