Update as of 3/20/2016: I have seen two vehicles went through this way since the last time. I confronted the last person as of yesterday saying there is do not enter sign when he went through, then he came back through. Something needs to change by putting up a wrong way sign under the do not enter sign, or something that can block drivers going through the do no enter sign, but it does not block the RIGHT way of traffic through. The blocking method could be a speed bump that allows the RIGHT way of traffic to go over it, and the WRONG way of traffic has to back up, due to not going through. Another way is by putting up a cameras so that if a driver does go through, he or she will get caught, and be ticketed in the mail for not obeying a street sign, and will be in court. It is becoming more annoying that the City of Hammond Cops can't patrol around my area more. I have a picture to show where the do not enter sign is at. The location of the picture is between my house, the alley and Columbia Elementary School back parking lot.

Update as of 8/16/2016: Another vehicle has disobeyed the sign yet AGAIN!!! This has to stop immediately!!! This city is full of garbage officials that can't do nothing about this issue.

Update as of 8/17/2016: ANOTHER vehicle has went through the sign YET AGAIN!!! Where is the cops patrolling this garbage areas that is known as Hammond. I HATE yellling at these stupid drivers for driving through this sign. I don't want to get shot by a stupid driver that can't follow signs, and if I got shot I WILL SUE the driver and this City for mishandling of patrolling areas when their should be patrolled. Another School Year is yet about to begin, so the police of this garbage city that is runned by a garbage mayor,can patrol more strict, and enforced more harsher tickets to brain dead drivers that live and drive recklessly in this area.

Please refrain from all of the insults and threats. They are pointless, completely unnecessary and they do not help address your complaint in any way. I can appreciate your frustration and we will take steps to address the problem. As you dated your comments it appears that there was almost 5 months with no addition to your complaint that I'm aware of which would lead us to believe that the complaint had been addressed satisfactorily.

All units that patrol that area have been notified, which includes all patrol and traffic unit. I don't believe we can legally place speed bumps or or spike strips on public roadways in Hammond but you can take that up with your Council person.

Sorry about the insults and threats it was completely out of rage. I appreciate the services of all police services that is in this world even through bad times especially the shootings of African American by officers. You guys can put up a camera system above the sign,so the drivers will get a warning or possibly a ticket for endangering the right way of traffic. As for road that is between the columbia elementary school and my house is technically a alley, because it does not have street name, as it goes from truman street through logan street that is from left side of the columbia bridge that you drive up on the bridge going towards Menards, and other stores. As for the council person, I don't know his/her number or the person. I know from my dad that we supposed to get new sidewalks years ago but that never happened. I appreciate all the help, but to me this issue will never to be solved, and is getting me even more stressed out, when a driver that can't follow road signs especially a DO NOT ENTER right by a school that schools kids from preschool through 5th grade. Another way is to send out to all of the hammond and/or hessville residents a voucher or remainder that if disobeying a street sign will you get a ticket or a warning. I know that Morton Senior High School on the border of hessville or hammond and highland, Indiana has speed bumps within the parking lot so that is rarely no accidents coming out of the parking lot and going out into the road as I was a graduate of Morton.

8/23/2016 update: Another vehicle went through the sign AGAIN!!! For the past two times, the same vehicle went through the sign around 5:30am in the morning. The vehicle looks like a grey or silver infiniti. The brand is either a g37, g35, or a q50. I could not get a glance at the license plate number, because the driver drives through the sign at a higher speed than 20 mph. I feel like the city promotes their bad drivers to make the city look bad than it really is.

8/31/2016 update: Another vehicle has went through the sign again. It happened 15 minutes before 6am this morning. I was outside taking out the garbage, and saw this vehicle went through. I don't what brand and model of the vehicle was this morning.

9/3/2016 update: Another vehicle went through the sign again but in reverse. The vehicle is a early 2000s black Ford f150 with a white cab on it. However, the driver parks two houses down from my house.

10/19/2018 update: A early 2000s chevrolet malibu went through the sign yet AGAIN!!! The vehicle went past my house at least 2 times, the first time being going past the DO NOT ENTER sign. There needs to be some type of camera system to bust this garbage drivers going through this sign. The sign is outdated and needs to replace with a brand new one that people can see this sign. Even, a city of hammond truck went through this sign last week. There needs to be a daily patrol especially the night time, but that won't happen.

The date should be 10/19/2016, not 10/19/2018.

Nov.2, 2016 update: ANOTHER vehicle went through this sign YET AGAIN. Did not see what the make and model of the vehicle. The time was around 5:30am this morning. This city needs to STOP neglecting this issue, or wait they do not care if there is a accident between a vehicle that is going the right way of traffic while the other vehicle goes the wrong way of traffic. There needs to be a change of hammond police patrolling this area. As for the whole halloween extra police patrol was a scam. There seriously needs to be a camera system to catch these garbage drivers that goes through this sign.

Nov. 16,2016: Another vehicle went through this sign YET AGAIN!!! However this vehicle decided to pull up in my driveway, and threw the times newpaper when I was taking out garbage and recycling out that violates the No trespassing sign, and my privacy. The same vehicle was the one I seen in the August 23, 2016 update. The NWI Times need to have proper drivers that do not trespass into peoples driveway with their vehicle and disobey street signs. I truly had it hows there is no camera system to catch these trash drivers disobeying a simple DO NOT ENTER sign just like a speed limit sign especially right by an Elementary School. I will talk to the Times about this, and see what can they do about there drivers. Or what this city does not care at all if drivers come around in Hammond and disobeying proper street signs, and other proper driver skills.

Dec. 31,2016 update: Around 9:40am this morning I heard another vehicle went through the DO NOT ENTER sign, and went through the alley behind my house the wrong way. This is getting out of hand that this issue is not being acknowledged as with the other issues within in city of Hammond specially a traffic sign that prevents the garbage drivers to drive the wrong way into the right way of traffic. Another issue drivers that are driving on 1200 block of Indiana St. where I live on disobey the speed limit of 25mph especially theres a school right behind my house that is on Michigan St. and pick up and drop off zone on truman St, and the entrance and the exit of the school parking lot for parents to come and get their kids from school.

April. 4,2017 update: I almost got into a head on collision with someone that can't read this sign again. Is it that hard to put something up like a camera system to catch these scumbags of drivers that can't follow Street Signs as simple as DO NOT ENTER! I know this is a problem but come on City of Hammond, you guys got to do something, but you can't.

April. 6,2017 update: I saw another vehicle went through the DO NOT ENTER sign YET AGAIN!!! The vehicle is a early 2000s Chevrolet Tahoe with a color of Violet Red and has a temporary Illinois license plate. Don't know what are the numbers are. Seriously there needs to be a camera system to monitor drivers going through the right side of traffic and the wrong side of the traffic. I know that this issue is never going to be solved with a proper camera system or police patrolling around this area. This is causing me great stress that there no resolution to this issue.

April. 6,2017 update: Another vehicle went through this sign YET AGAIN!!! The vehicle is early 2000s Dark Red Chevrolet Tahoe with temporary Illinois license plate. This is causing me great stress that is no camera System setup to monitor and catch drivers that go through this sign throughout each day. I know if there was camera system some gangbanger around the neighborhood is going to shoot it, but we all know there will be no camera system because the city is not going approve of this to allow a camera system to catch these drivers disobey this sign.

April. 15,2017 update: Another vehicle went past this sign yet again when I was letting out my dog. It was a early 2000's dark blue or black Ford Explorer, could not catch the license plate. I want a comment back to file a complaint so the mayor can see this issue is not being solved. I know that this issue is right by Columbia Elementary School, and needs to be fixed immediately without a student from Columbia being ran over by a brain dead driver disobeying this sign. I went to Columbia Elementary School from 2000 to 2005 or '06 and graduating from Morton Senior High School in 2014. I want to see this city improve, but it won't.

July. 12,2017 update: Saw another vehicle went through the DO NOT ENTER sign. The vehicle was a White Penske Rental Truck with Blue. Even though I was turning on right on truman St. to get home. There needs to be action taken here if there no cops patrolling the neighborhood.

August. 8,2017 update: Around 9:30 am this morning saw a full size penske rental truck went through this sign from inside my vehicle. There needs to be more patrolling around this neighborhood to catch these losers of drivers. It seems like this city promotes bad people to live in this city and make city look like garbage.

August. 10,2017 update: Around 4:50pm today A dark red Chrysler went through this sign when I was taking out my dog to use the bathroom. My hatred for this city is beyond normal. Right now it is at 89/100. Your guys are incompetent of how to run a city especially Hammond. I will file a lawsuit if I have to get the results that is needed.

September. 30,2017 update; Saw another vehicle went through the DO NOT ENTER sign. The vehicle is a dark blue PT cruiser early 2000s. I'll confronted the person to them know that there is a DO NOT ENTER sign, and that is a school zone here. The driver acknowledged and said okay. I am beyond mad at this point to see there no solution for this issue. If I was mayor, I would have fix this issue by now.

December. 10,2017 update: Around 11:50am I seen another vehicle disobeying this sign YET AGAIN. I am getting @#$% off that this issue has been not resolved yet. Seriously do something even though Columbia Elementary School will be closed due to the new education layout plan. I DO NOT want to get hit by a reckless driver when I am coming home.

12/29/2017 update: So today while shoveling saw another vehicle went through this sign YET AGAIN. And as of 12/26/2017 and 12/27/2017 seen another vehicle drove through this sign. However that driver works for the times, but it is unacceptable that a company like the times to make their drivers disobey street signs as they are delivering off papers to residents. If the cops don't care that is a HUGE problem. To me, the officials are a bunch of cowards that DO NOT how to run a city or town correctly. This city is a laughing stock than its formal self. I begin to hate this city every day ever since growing up in this city. As for the the times I tried to contact them but their email address is invalid. Look at city of Chicago its a laughing stock of its formal self. My polish, dutch, and german ancestors will be ashamed of what they did to make the cities of Chicago and hammond grow then compared of this garbage. If this issue will NOT be resolved I will file a lawsuit against this city or get through to talk to the mayor.

Lost track of this thread. have been getting same or similar complaints on other threads also. citations have been written by several different officers. Some have parked there for short periods. We cannot monitor the block for 24 hrs a day. The stops that are being made are normally after they turned off of the block as that is the nature of most traffic stops, they occur a block or two away from the scene of the offense. Other community members have stated that they have seen the officers patrolling or sitting on the block. Its a fairly busy area which makes it hard to sit for any extended period of time. I'm going to close this thread. You can reopen it or you can create a new one or join one of the more recent threads about this subject. having multiple threads make it almost impossible to keep track of who said what over any period of time and it's too time consuming to look up every thread and give the same answer over and over. I just happened to come across this while trying to locate a completely unrelated complaint. I apologize that we haven't been able to totally resolve it to your satisfaction although it is not due to a lack of trying. we get the same complaint in every part of the city and everyone feels their complaint is more important than the next. We do the best to address them all. Recently an officer started going to the same location for a while every day to write tickets and one of the neighbors complained about it and called it lazy police work. It gets frustrating for us too, we really want to eliminate these problems but we also realize these same problems have gone on for years. People usually bring up speed bump but they are not allowed here on city streets. Again I apologize, we have not forgotten about you!!

1/12/2018 update: Saw the same vehicle YET AGAIN today and yesterday around 6:20am in the morning. By the time around 6:30 I head out to work and do not see the driver. However the vehicle is the same person that does the nwi times newspaper route, but I can not get the license plate as it drives off. If this does not stop I will drive to the times in munster to seek a answer on why they think its okay for their drivers to disobey a street sign especially by a elementary school grades from Pre-K to 5th grade.

1/22/2018 update: YET AGAIN the same vehicle from the times keeps disobeying the sign. The time was around 6:20am this morning. Is it that hard for a police officer to watch this area in the columbia elementary school parking lot to possibly tell the driver that he is disobeying a street sign. The best case scenario is get a new updated DO NOT ENTER sign up so it can reflective at night so people can see and not disobey to cause a wreck. I'm still keeping my promise to get a answer from the times either going their or calling them.

2/2/2018 update: Yet again the same vehicle from the times keeps disobeying the sign. I getting sick of tard of it. However, the driver left information in his route in mail slots. His information is Monroe Brown (No relation) 3650 W Ridge Road Lot #2 Gary, IN 46408, and his number is (219) 302-2462.

2/13/2018 update: As of 6:36am this morning I caught the same driver from The Times yet again. His information is in 2/2/2018 update. SERIOUSLY this is something that hard to be fixed or we are going assume that is issue will not be fixed. I truly had it just like another report that has not been resolved. This issue is almost 2 years old. The higher ups of City of Hammond truly need to get their head out of their butts and fix these issues that being reported.

2/17/2018 update: On 2/16/2018 or 2/15/2018 the residents of 1248 Trumana St. and 1244 Truman St. both violated the one way direction of the truman St because its the drop off and pick up zone of columbia Elementary School especially when both houses look right at the school when coming outside. I seen this before getting onto Michigan St. to get to work. I got the license plate of the 1244 Truman St. and it is TK327LRJ Late 90s to early 2000s ford ranger, but however I did not seen the license plate of 1248 Truman St residents vehicle. Their should be a DO NOT Enter sign on the block of Truman St. and S Kent Ave literally right by the School so these Residents won't make the same mistake just like the DO NOT ENTER sign on the1200 block of Indiana St. But I should they will disregard the sign and think they own the street. It was strange I seen the same ford ranger before I did this before posting this thread. I think both residents should be noticed of this and do not this again. However I will try to get the license plate of the "The Times" newspaper driver.

3/17/2018 update: Around 4:10pm through 4:15pm while letting my dog out to use the bathroom, I have seen a vehicle went through the sign. It seemed the driver was confused were to go, but to me, I think that the driver did this on purpose. The vehicle is a 2000s Nissan Altima with Indiana Registration paper plate. In my opinion that the city truly DOES NOT care at all about on-going issues that have going on for years that won't be resolved. There needs to be another sign underneath the DO NOT ENTER sign like TURN AROUND or a camera system to catch these drivers thinking its okay to continue disobeying this DO NOT ENTER sign.

6/9/2018 update: Another vehicle went through the sign again but before doing this, the driver was driving around the parking lot of Columbia Elementary School. This was of yesterday June. 8,2018. This is truly un-excusable to NOT do anything about this issue. Could not get the license plate of the car. Like I said before, install cameras to catch drivers doing this kind of thing, so I won't have to report it as much.

7/22/2018 update: I know this is late but on July. 9,2018 or July. 10,2018, A vehicle from the residence of 1225 Indiana st. same block where I live on decided to DISOBEY the DO NOT ENTER sign. Luckily for me I got the license plate of the vehicle (TK703NDI). Something needs to change, but wait the city won't do anything but to continue ignore ongoing issues. I know I should of post this on those dates, but I do have a job to get to, and save up money to move out of Hammond.

Nov.8, 2018 update: As of yesterday, saw another vehicle went through the DO ENTER sign when I was about to turn into my driveway. The vehicle license plate is YJY428 Honda Odyssey. This vehicle belongs to the residents of 1227 Indiana St Hammond Indiana 46320. There should be NO excuses why these issues that have been going on for years HAVE NOT been resolved. Is it due to lack of police presence or the lack of authority from the officials that run this city? This is a school zone, and not a regular part of the city that the officials do not care about.

11/15/2018 update: As of 2:35pm today, I saw another vehicle went pass the DO NOT ENTER sign again. This has to STOP, and I mean it has to STOP. This issue has gone on way too far. Seriously, does the mayor really care about this city and the issues that this city has? There are too many issues in this city that are not being resolved, and continue to be ignored for years. This area is a SCHOOL ZONE, and not some ghetto part of Hammond. I know for instance on my block and logan St. that there are drivers speeding through to bypass the light on Columbia Ave. and Michigan St.

12/3/2018 update: As of Yesterday, the residents of 1227 Indiana St. Hammond Indiana 46320, vehicle is Honda Odyssey with the license plate of YJY428. These residents SERIOUSLY NEED to be talked to by the Hammond police. When I looked at the driver going through the sign, he did not care at all just like the passenger. Its bad enough that drivers think its okay to drive 35 in 25 mph zone on the 1200 block in Indiana St. and on Logan St. I have not seen one cop at all patrolling since the city intentionally blocked off the intersection of Columbia ave & Michigan St to work on failed sewage lines. I want answers on why the police think its okay not to patrol this area more due to being a SCHOOL ZONE.

Although you may not have seen officers out there recently, I can assure there have been. I have sent my unmarked enforcement unit out there, but as Captain Alcox previously explained, I cannot dedicate an officer to that area 24/7. It is not a matter of caring, its a matter of logistics. When the officers were out there, they did not observe any violations. Furthermore, traffic crash data for that area is virtually non-existent. I understand your frustration, but we need you to understand our position on this. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 219-852-2945.

12/10/2018 update: the residents of 1227 indiana St. Hammond IN 46320 continue to disobey the DO NOT ENTER SIGN. This resident needs to be talked to by a officer on why he thinks it is okay to continue to disobey the sign time after time. The vehicle is a honda odyssey with the license plate of YJY428.

1/3/19 update: another vehicle 2002-2004 silver ford explorer with the license plate of ANR903 passed through the DO NOT ENTER. The driver does live on the same block as me. As for the honda odyssey with the license is YJY482 not YJY428. I have a feeling that these vehicles are owned by 1227 indiana st hammond IN 46320 residents especially the honda odyssey. This driver seriously needs to have their license taken away due to being a repeated offender.

6/7/2019 update: At 6:27 pm today, the same Honda odyssey with the license plate YJY482 from the residence of 1227 Indiana St. Hammond IN 46320 went through this sign YET AGAIN! They truly need to be talked to by the cops to stop driving the wrong side of the road. Also, they need to have a talk about their driving license.

7/6/2019 update: Witnessed one of the residents of 1224 Indiana St. Hammond IN, 46320 drove through this sign again at 7:00pm today. The vehicle is a Illinois plated pink Mitsubishi small hatchback that lives at the 1224 residency. This exact house had attempted shooting years ago where a amber alert was about to happen. I feel having Illinois residents coming into Indiana is truly a bad idea especially in Hammond. Both of the households of 1227 and 1224 need to be talked by the hammond police. This is truly outrageous. Its bad enough I see drivers drive 10 over the posted speed limit, & do not stop fully at stop signs. Something has to change in Hammond.

7/21/2019 update: From yesterday and one day during the week, the resident of 1227 Indiana St. Hammond IN 46320 continues to disobey the DO NOT ENTER sign again. The time period is around 7am in the morning. It is not right for this resident to keep doing this time after time. The residents SHOULD have their license revoked or suspended until they can fully understand what a street sign is! The that they use this week was their ford explorer with the license plate of ANR903. I am about done with this garbage on why their has not been no police knocking on the door of this location. Its bad enough the vast majority of drivers these days take for granted with a drivers license. It is a privilege not a right to drive a automobile. In the wrong hands, a vehicle is likely a fully loaded weapon that can cause chaos. Look what happened to the protest in South Carolina were a nero-nazi drove his dodge challenger in a crowd of people hurting them. That was years ago, & still goes on.

7/21/2019 update: As of yesterday, & one day during week. The residents of 1227 Indiana St. Hammond IN 46320 decided to pass through DO NOT ENTER sign yet again. They need to be talked to the police. Their vehicle was the ford explorer with the license plate ANR903.

August. 3, 2019 update: As of yesterday August. 2,2019, the same Honda Oddyssey from the residency of 1227 Indiana St. hammond IN 46320 has driven past the DO NOT ENTER sign YET AGAIN. I want this to stop immediately. Is that hard for patrolling officer to knock on the doors of this residency to see whats going on. If I was cop, I would take this issue in hand, and resolve it.

8/04/2019 update: at 7:05am this morning, the same Ford explorer from 1227 indiana. St hammond in 46320 drove past the DO NOT ENTER SIGN YET AGAIN. This has to stop! They need to lose their license.

08/07/2019 update: the residents from 1227 Indiana st hammond IN 46320 drove through this YET AGAIN. The same ford explorer ANR903. It happens around 7am in the mornings. How I can get in contact with a official to resolve this. This issue has been going on for about 3 years and no resolution yet on how to set up cameras to catch these reckless drivers.

Lt. Vicari has retired. I am closing open complaints that may or may not have been addressed. If you believe that your complaint still needs to be addressed, please create a NEW complaint so that it can be properly assigned.

In reference to the TRAINS stalling and being stopped. The Hammond Police Department cannot help correct this issue. Citations do not change the situation in which we all deal with. They are federally controlled. Any issues should be addressed the state or federal level.
