Palmer Street provides necessary access for abutting property owners accessing driveways as well as providing delivery access for trucks. This is signed as a shared street to indicate to drivers the need to drive at a low speed in the pedestrian environment.

Could the City consider making this street only open to abutters, to protect the needs of the abutters for vehicle access, but to also protect the pedestrians from unnecessary traffic driving down this street? There is no need for non-abutters to be driving down this street.

Sorry to reopen again, but I think this is still an issue.

If closing the street to cars is not an option, could the city at least post more signage warning pedestrians about cars? With the benches in the middle of the street and the different paving material, it is VERY confusing and many people think the street is not open to cars. More signage would at least make it a little safer so pedestrians would know to stay on the lookout for cars.

Palmer Street already has a SHARED STREET - 10 MPH sign at the entrance. Adding more traffic signage along this segment will only serve to make it look more like a road and encourage more traffic. The space is designed to carry the feel of a pedestrian zone to discourage through traffic.
