While the building had a fire to take care of the bulk of the graffiti, there remains a fair amount of inappropriate graffiti on the remaining building and in the skate ramps. This is a park where there are both older skaters and children under teh age of 10 on a regular basis.
Parks, please acknowledge and send a crew to paint over the graffiti on the building. If work is backed up and volunteer assistance is needed from Friends of Edgewood Park and/or WVRA, please let us know and we will organize a work party.
In the long-term, I believe there ought to be some sort of partnership to manage the graffiti, perhaps with some of the skaters as more of a public art program, rather than this constant graffiti - paint over (blank canvas) - graffiti - paint over cycle. My understanding is that Parks will be hosting a public get-together in January to discuss the future of Coogan, so ideally this will be part of that conversation. Not sure if a date has been set for this meeting, however.
